BYD Fang Cheng Bao Tai 3, First Tai lineup unveils coming in 2025

Fang Cheng Bao has introduced its new Tai range, the second significant lineup for the BYD sub-brand following the Bao portfolio.

Tai, which literally means titanium, will feature hardcore vehicles for families, with the first model, the Tai 3 mid-size SUV (sport utility vehicle), set to debut in the first half of 2025, Fang Cheng Bao announced today.

The series is named after titanium, a chemical element with several applications in human life and is extremely ductile and malleable.

The Tai series will emphasize revolutionary technology, extreme safety, personalized style, and cockpit.

Unlike the Bao series, which features a body-on-frame construction geared toward off-road circumstances, the Tai series will emphasize a more family-oriented unibody design, serving as the primary product matrix of Fang Cheng Bao’s hardline goods.

BYD launched the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, 2023. The first model, the Bao 5 off-road SUV, went on sale on November 9, 2023, with deliveries starting by the end of the month.

On November 12th, Fang Cheng Bao introduced the Bao 8, the second model after the Bao 5 and the first under the BYD umbrella to use Huawei’s driver assistance system.

The Tai 3 is the first model in the Tai series and is the production version of Fang Cheng Bao’s Super 3 concept, which he presented earlier this year.

Fang Cheng Bao’s spring launch event in Shenzhen on April 16 included two concepts: the Super 3 SUV and the Super 9 supercar.

According to Fang Cheng Bao, the Super 3 is inspired by starfighters, with crisp, three-dimensional lines forming a sculpted metal body structure that gives a flamboyant expression of individualism.

Fang Cheng Bao’s decision to rename the production version of the Super 3 as the Tai 3 indicates a shift in strategy. Previously, the concept car was known as the Bao 3 and was listed in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) regulatory filing catalog in June.

BYD Fang Cheng Bao Tai 3 Features

Yesterday, the model was listed in the current MIIT file under the name Tai 3, with core characteristics substantially comparable with the earlier Bao 3 filing.

According to the most recent catalog, the Tai 3 will be made in two all-electric variants at BYD’s Xi’an, Shaanxi, and Changzhou, Jiangsu production facilities.

The vehicle features five seats and measures 4,605 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,745 mm.

The Tai 3 is powered by two electric motors, the front producing 110 kW and the back producing 200 kW.

Its two models weigh 2,170 kg and 2,265 kg, respectively, and both have a top speed of 201 km/h.

The model is powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries provided by BYD’s battery division FinDreams Battery, according to the application.
