Geely's Geome Unveils the Budget-Friendly Xingyuan EV

Geely’s sub-brand, Geome, which the company acquired in 2019, has officially introduced its latest city-oriented budget electric vehicle (EV), the Xingyuan. This new EV is set to compete directly with BYD’s popular Dolphin model, offering a blend of affordability, practicality, and unique features.

Key Highlights of the Geome Xingyuan

  1. Design and Colors:
    • The Xingyuan is styled with city commuting in mind and features an array of ice cream-inspired colors, including Vanilla Beige, Basil Green, Berry Powder, Milk White, Mousse Silver, Truffle Gray, and Sea Salt Blue.
    • As a quirky promotional touch, Geely has partnered with Haagen-Dazs to offer free ice cream servings to those who book a test drive of the Xingyuan.
  2. Dimensions:
    • The vehicle measures 162.8 inches in length, slightly longer than the BYD Dolphin, making it compact yet spacious for urban driving.
  3. Battery and Range:
    • Geome offers two battery options for the Xingyuan: a 30.12 kWh battery and a 40.16 kWh battery, both sourced from CATL, a major battery manufacturer.
    • The CLTC range for these batteries is reported at 193 miles (30.12 kWh) and 255 miles (40.16 kWh). However, it is worth noting that CLTC ranges tend to be on the optimistic side.
  4. Interior and Technology:
    • The interior of the Xingyuan is highlighted by a large central screen that serves as the hub for its infotainment system.
    • The vehicle runs on Meizu’s Flyme Auto OS for its infotainment, which is seamlessly integrated given that Meizu is also owned by Geely.
  5. Storage Capacity:
    • The Xingyuan offers a generous amount of storage space. With the rear seats folded, the total cargo capacity reaches 1,320 liters, while the frunk (front trunk) provides an additional 70 liters of storage.

Pricing and Availability

While Geome has yet to officially announce the pricing of the Xingyuan, it is expected to be positioned as a low-cost EV, likely around the RMB 80,000 mark (approximately $11,000). This price point is notably lower than the BYD Dolphin, which currently starts at RMB 99,800 (around $13,900), making the Xingyuan an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers.

With the introduction of the Xingyuan, Geome aims to capture a significant share of the affordable EV market, providing an appealing alternative for city dwellers looking for an economical, stylish, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
