Huawei Luxeed R7 EREV revealed through government filing

The Luxeed R7 is one of the most recent additions to Huawei’s growing array of electrified vehicles that has caught our eye. It’s an SUV coupe created in collaboration with Huawei and Chery that was first available as an all-electric vehicle. The latest MIIT filing reveals that the R7 will be available in an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) form.

The EREV Luxeed R7 offers an all-electric range of 121 or 125 miles, depending on the variant. The difference between the 125 and 121 mile range versions is likely due to wheel size, with the former having 20-inch wheels and the latter having 21-inch wheels. The EREV variant is powered by a 36 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CATL, weighting 639 kg.

For longer trips, the R7 EREV employs a range extender in the shape of a 1.5L engine producing 115 kW of power. This engine, which is also used in the Exeed Exlantix ET, allows the R7 EREV to consume 5.68 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (41.5 mpg). The EREV version is expected to have the same arrangement as the Exeed Exlantix ET, with a 195 kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle.

The EREV version has the same measurements as the all-electric version: 195.1 inches in length, 78 inches in width, 64.3 inches in height, and 116.1 inches in wheelbase. The R7 EREV, based on the E0X modular architecture platform, features a streamlined design and a drag coefficient of Cd 0.219, resulting in a top speed of 124 mph.

Higher-end variants of the R7 EREV have Lidar and use the Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0 technology for advanced autonomous driving capabilities. Models without Lidar nonetheless benefit from the basic version of the system, which includes high-speed autonomous driving and intelligent parking capabilities.

The all-electric Luxeed R7 costs between RMB 259,800 and RMB 339,800 ($35,800 – $46,800). The actual cost for the EREV version has yet to be announced, but it is likely to have a lower beginning price, making it a more affordable alternative for people wishing to enter the electric vehicle industry.
