The Volkswagen ID. Buzz, an electric minivan with classic appearance reminiscent of the legendary VW bus, has finally arrived in the United States. American customers may now customize and order their vans via Volkswagen’s online configurator.

While the ID. Buzz has a futuristic electric motor and a large, modern interior, the drum brakes on the rear wheels appear to be a step back in time. In an era when even low-cost cars have disc brakes on all four sides, Volkswagen’s choice may seem puzzling, especially given the ID Buzz’s heavy curb weight of around 6,000 pounds.

VW ID. Buzz Price and dimension

In terms of price, the base Pro S model starts at $59,995 and includes equipment such as a heated steering wheel, LED headlights, 12-way power heated and ventilated front seats with massage, three-zone automatic temperature control, and a suite of driver assistance systems.

The Pro S Plus trim level, priced at $63,495, includes a dual-tone paint job, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, a retractable trailer hitch, a heads-up display, and a 360-degree video system.

Volkswagen provides an all-wheel-drive version of the Pro S Plus with a dual-motor configuration for an additional $4,500. This 4Motion model additionally has a heated windshield and captain’s seats in the second row, decreasing seating capacity from seven to six.

Volkswagen has introduced two “1st Edition” vehicles priced at $65,495. This unique model has exceptional 20-inch wheels and a panoramic fixed-glass roof with electrochromic smart dimming. The 4MOTION 1st Edition with all-wheel drive is also available for an additional $4,500.

All versions of the ID. Buzz employ a 91 kWh battery, with an EPA-estimated range of 234 miles for rear-wheel-drive models and 231 miles for all-wheel-drive trims. Unfortunately, because the ID. Buzz is made in Germany, it is not eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit when purchasing the vehicle outright. Leasing options improve the situation and provide some intriguing incentives.
