Polestar, a Swedish electric vehicle business, has started production in the US for its most economical model, Polestar 3. The Long Range Single Motor model is poised to shake up the North American EV landscape with its low pricing and outstanding range.
The $73,400 Polestar 3 was exclusively available in the US as a Long Range Dual Motor variant. With the advent of the single-motor variant, the entry price falls dramatically to $67,500. This makes the Polestar 3 a significantly more accessible alternative for those seeking the performance and luxury of an electric SUV without the exorbitant price tag associated with high-end EVs.
Polestar’s choice to build the Long Range Single Motor model in the United States is a wise step. Polestar can speed up delivery for North American consumers by building the vehicle at its Charleston, South Carolina plant. The cheapest Polestar 3 may be eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, but whether it receives the entire or partial award will be determined by the battery’s origin.
“With the start of production of our Long range Single motor Polestar 3 in the US, we will now begin to deliver this car directly to North American customers,” Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, announces.
The single-motor variant may be the entry-level model, but it makes no compromises on performance or functionality. The rear-wheel drive Polestar 3 has a good 295 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 7.5 seconds. And, with an EPA-estimated range of up to 350 miles, it outperforms its dual-motor counterpart.
The 14.5-inch LED infotainment screen dominates the dashboard. It is accompanied by a 9-inch driver display. Rear passengers are given to their own climate control screen, ensuring that everyone on board is comfortable.
The Polestar 3 can charge up to 250 kW and from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. And, with the recent revelation that Polestar drivers can now order NACS adapters to use Tesla’s Supercharger network.
