The first electric Ferrari was filmed testing in Italy.

Ferrari’s first all-electric automobile, set to launch later this year, is eagerly anticipated worldwide. The renowned Italian carmaker has been very quiet about the details, but recent sightings of a prototype being tested have provided a good indication of what’s to come.

The prototype suggests that Ferrari’s first electric vehicle will be a crossover SUV akin to the Purosangue. Despite the disguise, it is evident that the car will have a dramatic new look with redesigned headlights and body panels. While the camouflage hides many minor details, the vehicle’s basic shape and proportions are clear.

Interestingly, the prototype still has false tailpipes and emits an exhaust-like sound as it goes past. Ferrari is developing a technology to imitate the sound of a classic combustion engine, similar to the one found in the Dodge Charger Daytona. Many people may think this is unnecessary, but it could help Ferrari appeal to purists who are hesitant to embrace the silence of an electric car.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has pledged that the company’s first EV will be created “the right way,” maintaining Ferrari’s characteristic sound and design components in an all-electric package. This dedication to retaining Ferrari’s DNA will undoubtedly resonate with admirers eager to see how the carmaker will adapt its famed performance and style into the electrified era.

The electric crossover SUV is likely to make its official debut later this year as a 2026 model. Ferrari anticipates that by 2026, EVs and plug-in hybrids will account for 60% of its sales, marking a significant shift towards electrification for the company.
