U.S. Adds 780 New EV Charging Stations in 2025

The Los Angeles Times reported that in the third quarter of 2025, the United States added approximately 780 new high-speed public charging stations to its network of EV charging stations. The Department of Energy also reported that nationwide charging infrastructure increased by 19% in the first nine months of this year, which is a significant boon to the expanding electric vehicle market.EV Charging Stations

Growing Dependence on Public Charging

There is a noticeable difference between new and seasoned EV owners, according to data from EVgo Inc., a top fast-charging provider.

  • Experienced drivers usually charge at home.
  • New EV owners tend to rely more on public charging stations.

More restaurant and retail chains are installing chargers at their locations as a result of this trend. Between four and fourteen new charging stations were added by companies such as Cracker Barrel, Dunkin’, Target, Wawa, and Ikea. In Q3 2025 alone, Pilot Travel Centers activated 27 new chargers.

End of Federal EV Tax Credits

The infrastructure growth comes just weeks after the end of federal EV tax credits, which previously offered:

  • Up to $4,000 for used EVs
  • Up to $7,500 for new EVs

After a Republican tax and spending package was passed in July, these incentives ended on September 30, 2025.

But in June, a federal court decision ordered the Trump administration to restore billions of dollars in previously frozen funds for EV infrastructure, potentially allowing EV charging expansion to continue.

Future Outlook for EV Sales

Jim Farley, the CEO of Ford, has voiced concerns about the market’s future despite these gains. Without further federal assistance, he warned, EV sales could fall to just 5% of all vehicle sales, describing the market as “way smaller than we thought.

The U.S. EV charging network is expanding quickly despite waning incentives thanks to both public infrastructure and private investment. It is anticipated that this expansion will boost the confidence of new EV owners to make the move to electric vehicles.
