Volvo EX90: Deliveries Begin After US Production Kicks Off
The Volvo EX90, the brand’s new flagship electric SUV, is finally reaching customers after a year-long production delay caused by software issues. Originally scheduled to launch in 2023, the Volvo EX90 officially entered production in the U.S. in June, and Volvo now confirms that the first units will be delivered by the end of this month.
Global Deliveries Ramp Up Through Early 2025
Volvo has started shipping the first batch of EX90 models to retailers across the United States and Europe. According to Volvo, a broader delivery ramp-up will take place between Q4 2024 and Q1 2025, meaning more global markets will gain access to the EX90 sometime between October and March.
This phased rollout highlights Volvo’s careful approach to launching its most technologically advanced EV yet.

A New Flagship With Advanced Computing and AI
Volvo calls the Volvo EX90 a “paradigm shift” for the brand. It’s the first Volvo powered by the company’s new core computing system, featuring:
- An in-car AI computer built on Nvidia Drive
- The Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit platform
- Always-on 5G connectivity
- Support for over-the-air (OTA) software updates
These technologies work together to deliver what Volvo describes as “a more responsive and convenient car experience.”
Next-Generation Safety With Lidar and Smart Sensors
Staying true to Volvo’s safety reputation, the EX90 is the first model in the lineup to include:
- A lidar system
- Multiple radars and cameras
- A suite of advanced sensors
These systems continuously collect data to enhance safety and driving assistance features. Volvo says the EX90 is designed to be the safest Volvo ever, extending the brand’s long-standing leadership in vehicle safety innovation.

Impressive Range and New Bi-Directional Charging
The Volvo EX90 offers up to 373 miles of WLTP range, making it one of the longest-range Volvo EVs to date. It is also the first Volvo to support bi-directional charging, allowing owners to use the vehicle as a power source for homes or other devices—an increasingly popular feature in modern electric cars.
CEO Jim Rowan Praises the EX90 After Extensive Testing
Volvo CEO Jim Rowan personally tested the EX90, driving 950 km across three U.S. states, and shared glowing impressions:
- Smooth charging experience
- Exceptional ride comfort
- Quiet cabin
- High-end sound system
- Reliable performance and responsive UI
He stated that the Volvo EX90 marks the beginning of a “new era” for the brand as it transitions toward becoming a fully electric carmaker.
