LeapMotor unveiled the C10 Range Extender at the Brussels Motor Show. This electric SUV provides drivers with an extended range and increased flexibility, much like another plug-in hybrid. But it’s not.
The C10 series SUV features Cell to Chassis technology, which improves structural integrity and battery efficiency. It also includes a number of modern safety measures and a 5-star Euro-NCAP rating.
Leapmotor C10 Gets EREV version details
The Range Extender technology, however, is the most interesting and controversial aspect. This ingenious technology tackles EV drivers’ range concerns by combining electric power and a range extender. The firm claims an amazing range of over 590 kilometers. Unlike a plug-in hybrid, the 1.5-liter gasoline engine does not drive the wheels; instead, it recharges the battery when it runs low on power. Aside from the generator, the C10 Range Extender has two additional charging modes: up to 65 kW DC and AC.
The C10 REEV features a single 215 HP motor with 236 lb-ft of torque. This implies smooth but not record-breaking acceleration. Leapmotor promises remarkable high-speed stability, as well as a dynamic and pleasant driving experience. The C10 EREV has CO2 emissions as low as 10 g/km under the WLTP cycle.
Leapmotor C10 Gets EREV version Price
The Leapmotor C10 Range Extender is priced reasonably, starting at $41,500 in Belgium. Orders were formally launched on January 10th, and deliveries are slated to begin in March 2025. It will be interesting to see how much fuel it consumes and whether the European market is interested in yet another take on plug-in hybrid technology.
