BYD’s luxury brand Denza is coming to India, and the Denza D9 electric MPV looks likely to be one of its first cars here. Denza India posted an “Arriving soon” teaser on 2 October 2026 but named no models, prices or dates. Listings point to a November 2026 launch, though nothing is official, and a slip into early 2027 wouldn’t be a surprise. Everything below is based on the global-spec car, since India-spec details haven’t been announced.

Denza D9 electric MPV at a glance
| Detail | Expected for India |
|---|---|
| Body style | 7-seat luxury MPV |
| Powertrain | Electric only (no hybrid) |
| Battery | 103 kWh Blade (LFP) |
| Expected price | Rs 80-90 lakh, ex-showroom |
| Expected launch | November 2026, unconfirmed |
| Rivals | MG M9, Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM |
Exterior design
The D9 is big: about 5,250 mm long and 1,960 mm wide, on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. It sits low with a sharp nose, like most luxury MPVs.
The front has a large piano black grille with vertical chrome slats, and a thick brushed aluminium strip runs the width of the nose. The split LED headlamps sit low, just above the LED fog lamps, with small V-shaped DRLs on top.

From the side, you see the length and the usual MPV profile, with a pointed front and a tall rear. There’s more brushed aluminium along the window line, under the doors and on the D-pillar. The rear doors slide back instead of swinging out, which helps in tight parking spots. The global car runs 18-inch chrome alloys, and we expect the same here.
The back is a plain block shape. The connected LED tail lamps are the main feature, along with a shark-fin antenna, a roof spoiler and a brushed aluminium strip under the Denza lettering that looks a bit like a moustache. Expect black, white and grey as the colour options.
Interior and seating
The India-spec D9 is expected to come only with the brown cabin theme shown in the teaser. The dashboard is simple and slightly curved, with brushed aluminium, ambient lighting and dark wood trim. The wood carries onto the doors, with piano black on the door pads and centre console. The dashboard, doors and seats are covered in soft leatherette, and there’s very little exposed plastic. Fit and finish is still unchecked.

The second row of the Denza D9 electric MPV has two captain seats with plenty of adjustment, a powered ottoman and a zero-gravity mode. The third row has three headrests but is really comfortable for two adults, and it gets a centre armrest, which is unusual. Boot space is 410 litres with all seven seats up and up to 2,310 litres with the rear seats folded, based on Australian specs.

Features and safety
The global car’s feature list is long, and we expect most of it to carry over:
- A 15.6-inch floating touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- A 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 12-inch AR head-up display
- A 14-speaker Dynaudio system
- Three-zone climate control, three wireless phone chargers and a panoramic glass roof
- 128-colour ambient lighting and auto-folding mirrors
- Powered, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats with massage
- Armrest screens for both second-row passengers, controlling the sunshade, heating, ventilation and massage

On safety, expect eight airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, TPMS, hill hold, hill descent control, parking sensors front and rear, and ISOFIX anchors. There should also be a 360-degree camera with 2D and 3D views and Level 2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition and rear cross traffic alert.
Battery, range and performance
Globally, the Denza D9 electric MPV has one 103 kWh battery with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Reports suggest India will get the front-wheel-drive version, with a single motor making 313 hp and 360 Nm. Denza hasn’t confirmed this.
| Spec | FWD | AWD |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 103 kWh | 103 kWh |
| Motors | 1 (front) | 2 |
| Power | 313 PS | 373 PS |
| Torque | 360 Nm | 470 Nm |
| Range (NEDC) | 600 km | 580 km |
| Range (WLTP) | 520 km | 480 km |
| 0-100 km/h | 9.5 sec | 6.9 sec |
The NEDC numbers are the flattering ones. The WLTP figures, which Australia quotes, are closer to real use.
The Australian car supports 200 kW DC fast charging, 11 kW AC charging and vehicle-to-load power. Charging speeds for India haven’t been announced. In China, the 2026 refresh moves to BYD’s Blade 2.0 battery, which is claimed to go from 10 to 70 per cent in about five minutes. We don’t know yet whether India gets that version.

Denza D9 electric MPV Expected price and rivals
The D9 is expected at around Rs 80-90 lakh ex-showroom. That’s more than the MG M9 electric, which is its closest rival, but well below the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM. Electric luxury MPVs are rare in India, so the D9 has little direct competition at that price.
Should you wait for it?
If you want a chauffeur-driven electric MPV, the D9 is worth waiting for. The second row is the draw, with the ottoman, massage seats and individual screens. I’d hold off on booking until Denza announces the final price, warranty and service network. Those are the things a brand new to India can get wrong, and none of them is known yet.
