The Jaecoo E5, also known as the Jaecoo 5 EV in some markets, is a compact electric SUV developed by Jaecoo. It sits in the entry-to-mid EV segment and targets buyers who want a practical electric crossover without moving into premium pricing. The model uses a front-wheel-drive layout and features a five-door SUV design focused on daily commuting and family use.
The Jaecoo E5 is one of the brand’s first global battery-electric vehicles following the launch of its gasoline and plug-in hybrid SUVs. It also reflects Chery Group’s broader expansion into international EV markets, especially in Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
Early specifications suggest the Jaecoo E5 will use a battery pack around 60 kWh, although the company has not confirmed the exact usable capacity. WLTP driving range estimates currently fall between 400 km and 450 km depending on trim level and wheel configuration. Real-world mixed driving figures may sit closer to 350 km to 400 km. Most preview reports indicate the SUV will use a single electric motor producing roughly 150 kW to 170 kW, delivering performance similar to other compact electric crossovers in this category.
Charging support is expected to include up to 11 kW AC charging and DC fast charging between 80 kW and 100 kW. Under ideal conditions, a 10% to 80% DC charge session should take around 30 to 40 minutes. Since many of these details come from early previews and supplier information, some specifications remain unconfirmed ahead of full market launches.
The expected starting price for the Jaecoo E5 is between RMB 140,000 and RMB 180,000 in China. That equals roughly $19,000 to $25,000 USD before local taxes and import fees. Regional pricing in Europe and Australia will likely increase because of shipping, homologation, and dealer costs. The SUV fits commuters, small families, and first-time EV buyers who want more cabin space than a hatchback while keeping operating costs lower than larger electric SUVs.
Within the Jaecoo lineup, the E5 sits close to the Jaecoo J7 and shares market space with the Chery Omoda E5. Key rivals include the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS EV, both of which compete in the affordable compact EV SUV segment. Among those competitors, the BYD Atto 3 remains the closest comparison because it offers similar dimensions, front-wheel-drive packaging, pricing, and driving range.
