Tata Motors Tiago.ev got a heavy facelift on May 28, 2026, and the pitch hasn’t really changed: this is still the cheapest new electric car you can register in India, starting around ₹6.99 lakh ex-showroom for the base Smart trim. Top-end pricing is reported inconsistently across sources — some list ₹9.99 lakh, others ₹10.09 lakh for the Creative+ 24kWh — so treat the ceiling as approximate until Tata’s own configurator settles it.
What actually changed for 2026 is the outside and the inside, not the underlying mechanicals. New dashboard, two free-standing displays, an off-centre Tata Motors Tiago.ev badge on the steering wheel, six new exterior colors. The bones — same 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery packs Tata’s been selling since the Tiago.ev launched in 2022 — are untouched.
The smaller 19.2kWh pack makes 61hp and 110Nm from a single front motor, with a claimed MIDC (Modified Indian Driving Cycle) range of 226km. Step up to the 24kWh pack and you get 74-75hp, 114Nm, and a claimed 285km — good enough for a 0-60kph run in 5.7 seconds, which is not a number anyone cross-shopping a Punch or a Comet EV is going to lead with, but it’s respectable for the segment. Claimed range and real-world range are, as always, two different conversations. Tata’s own site quotes a “real-world C75” figure of roughly 205-215km on the 24kWh car; other outlets put lived-in range closer to 160-210km depending on load, AC use, and how much of your commute is highway versus stop-start city driving. Neither number is wrong, exactly — they’re measuring different things. I’d treat anything above 200km as optimistic unless you’re driving gently in mild weather.
Charging is where the 2026 update actually earns its keep. Tata says the new architecture is 40% faster than before, adding 100km of range in 18 minutes on a suitable DC charger, with a 10-80% top-up in 35 minutes on a 30kW unit. That’s a real, usable improvement for a car whose whole reason for existing is “cheap enough to be someone’s only car.” A lifetime HV battery warranty now comes with the 24kWh pack for the first registered owner too, which does something to blunt the usual anxiety about EV batteries aging out early — though “lifetime” warranties are worth reading the fine print on, not just repeating.
The other piece worth flagging is the Battery-as-a-Service option, which drops the upfront price to around ₹4.69 lakh and shifts cost onto a per-kilometer battery fee (roughly ₹2.6/km, per Tata). It’s worth being precise about what this is: you own the battery from day one under this scheme. It’s a financing structure to lower the entry price, not a subscription where Tata can take the pack back. That distinction gets muddled in a lot of coverage, and it matters if you’re actually deciding how to pay for one of these.
None of this reinvents the Tata Motors Tiago.ev. It’s the same formula — small battery, small motor, small price — with a fresher face, quicker charging, and a warranty that should make the battery question less scary for a first-time EV buyer. If you wanted a Tiago.ev for what it always was — a genuinely affordable second car for city driving — the 2026 version gives you slightly less to worry about while asking for roughly the same money.
