BYD showed the ATTO 8 at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. It’s a full-size seven-seat electric SUV and the new top of BYD’s European SUV range, above the ATTO 2, ATTO 3, SEALION 5, SEALION 7 and SEAL U. Dealers start selling it in the first quarter of 2027. BYD hasn’t announced prices.

BYD ATTO 8: seven-seat EV with 405-mile range and 9-minute charging

BYD ATTO 8 Range and performance

Both versions use a 115kWh battery.

Design RWDExcellence AWD

Power462PS (340kW)775PS (570kW)

Buy the RWD car if range matters most. The AWD gives up 31 miles in exchange for a 4.6-second run to 62mph, which is quick for a car this size.

Charging

Charging is the headline, and it comes with an asterisk. The ATTO 8 is the first BYD-badged car in Europe with the 2nd Generation Blade Battery. BYD’s premium brand Denza already sells one FLASH-compatible car here, the Z9 GT. BYD says the ATTO 8 can go from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine. At -30°C, a 20% to 97% charge takes 12 minutes. BYD sums it up as “ready in 5, full in 9, cold add 3,” and says that’s about a third of the time rival SUVs need to reach 80%.

Those times only apply on BYD’s FLASH chargers, which deliver up to 1,500kW. BYD plans about 100 of them in Europe by the end of 2026 and 3,000 by the end of 2027. Until the network exists, the quoted times only apply where those chargers do.

Design

The ATTO 8 is 5,040mm long, 1,996mm wide and 1,760mm tall. The front has slim daytime-running lights built into the bodywork, matrix-LED headlights and an angular lower bumper. A sharp crease on the front doors runs into a strong shoulder line, and the dark C-pillar and chrome D-pillar make the roofline look longer. At the back are “infinity knot” tail-lights, a lit central BYD logo and a small roof spoiler. BYD says the shaped edges on the rear quarter panels smooth the airflow and help range.

Interior

Inside you get leather seats, soft-touch trim and a 2.39m² panoramic glass roof. The driver faces a 10.25-inch instrument display and a 26-inch head-up display. A 15.6-inch touchscreen runs Google Built-in, with Google Navigation, Assistant and the Play Store.

The front seats and the outer middle-row seats are heated, ventilated and have massage. Third-row passengers get adjustable headrests, and the rear cabin has its own tri-zone climate controls. Design RWD has a 10-speaker audio system, while Excellence AWD has 21 speakers. There’s also a front fridge that cools to -6°C and warms to 50°C, dual 50W wireless chargers and USB-C ports in both rows.

Space

With all three rows up, the boot holds 270 litres. Fold the middle and rear rows and that grows to 1,960 litres. A 136-litre front trunk fits an overnight bag or two.

Rivals

In Europe the ATTO 8 will compete with large electric SUVs such as the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90. It’s the electric counterpart of the SEALION 8 plug-in hybrid sold in Australia.
