BYD working on an AI autonomous driving chip With 80 TOPS

BYD plans to develop its own AI processor to support self-driving cars, similar to competitor XPeng. The information comes from a local Chinese news source.

In any case, previous signs suggest that BYD is working on an AI chip. The general manager of BYD’s Ocean range has already stated that the business intends to employ its in-house CPUs in lesser versions in the near future. Even the low-cost Seagull will gain autonomous smart driving capabilities next year.

The chip is supposedly capable of 80 TOPS, and BYD intends to dramatically reduce the cost to remain competitive. Offering advanced smart driving capabilities on all of its models, including the cheapest ones, will undoubtedly give the corporation an advantage over its competition.

BYD is currently employing Nvidia Orin N and Horizon Robotics’ J6E CPUs, but wants to replace them with in-house hardware in the coming years.
