The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake with EQ Technology is the brand’s entry-level electric estate, sitting at the compact end of Mercedes’ EV lineup below the EQE and EQS wagons. It’s built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA), a platform shared with the CLA Saloon, and is offered with rear-wheel drive (CLA 250+) or dual-motor all-wheel drive (CLA 350 4MATIC). What makes it notable isn’t styling — it’s the fact that this is Mercedes’ first all-electric estate/wagon body style, following the CLA Saloon that launched the MMA platform months earlier.
Both the CLA 250+ and CLA 350 4MATIC use an 85 kWh usable lithium-ion battery paired with an 800-volt electrical architecture. On the WLTP cycle, the rear-wheel-drive CLA 250+ is rated at up to 469–473 miles (roughly 760 km) depending on wheel size and trim, while the dual-motor CLA 350 4MATIC comes in slightly lower at around 451–454 miles. A smaller-battery variant, the CLA 200, uses a 58 kWh LFP pack rated around 321 miles WLTP; this version has not been confirmed for markets outside Europe. EPA-equivalent range for US-style testing has not been officially published; independent estimates put real-world range closer to 400 miles for the 250+.
Charging is where the 800V architecture pays off: DC fast charging peaks at 320 kW on the 250+ and 350 4MATIC (the CLA 200 is capped at 200 kW), adding roughly 190–195 miles of range in 10 minutes. A 10–80% charge takes about 22 minutes on a sufficiently powerful DC charger. AC onboard charging is rated at 22 kW. One caveat: the CLA Shooting Brake is not natively compatible with older 400V DC chargers without an optional adapter system, which Mercedes sells separately. A 48-volt mild-hybrid petrol version is planned to join the range later, but its powertrain specs and launch date remain unconfirmed at this stage.
The CLA Shooting Brake launched first in Europe, with UK pricing starting at roughly £47,750 (about $60,000 / €56,000) for the CLA 250+ and from £56,235 (about $71,000 / €66,000) for the CLA 350 4MATIC, before options. European market deliveries began in the first quarter of 2026. Mercedes has confirmed the estate body style will not be sold in the United States — only the CLA Saloon is offered there, so US buyers interested in this configuration would need to look elsewhere or import through third-party channels.
This car suits buyers who want sedan-like efficiency and range without giving up cargo space — small families, frequent long-distance drivers, or single-car households replacing a compact SUV. Within Mercedes’ own lineup, it sits between the CLA Saloon (same platform, no wagon practicality) and the larger EQB, which offers more interior volume but less range and slower charging. Externally, it competes with the BMW i4 (though BMW doesn’t offer a wagon body in this segment), the Volvo EX30/EC40 estate variants, and the Tesla Model 3, none of which currently match its charging speed or WLTP range figures. The closest direct spec-and-price match for comparison purposes is the BMW i5 Touring, which sits a segment above on price but competes closely on range and charging speed.
