Mercedes EQE SUV vs Mercedes EQS SUV

Mercedes EQE SUV vs Mercedes EQS SUV comes down to one question: do you want a well-rounded midsize luxury EV, or the biggest, longest-range SUV Mercedes builds? Both are electric, both wear the same three-pointed star, and both compete in a crowded field that includes the BMW iX and the Audi Q8 e-tron. The gap between them is bigger than the badges suggest.

Mercedes EQE SUV vs Mercedes EQS SUV side by side

Mercedes EQE SUV vs Mercedes EQS SUV range

The EQE SUV is EPA-rated at up to 302 miles in its 350+ trim, running on a 90.6 kWh battery. The EQS SUV goes further, with the 450+ trim rated at up to 323 miles from a larger 120 kWh pack. Neither number is class-leading, but the EQS SUV’s edge is real, not marginal.

Pick a dual-motor or AMG version of either car and range drops. The EQE 500 4Matic lands closer to 264 miles, and the AMG EQE trades range for power more aggressively. The same trade-off applies across the EQS SUV lineup.

Mercedes EQE SUV price vs Mercedes EQS SUV price

The EQE SUV starts around $77,900 for the 350+ trim. The EQS SUV starts meaningfully higher, around $105,250 for the 450+, and climbs from there with the AMG and Maybach variants. That roughly $27,000 gap buys a bigger battery, a bigger body, and, on the right trim, a third row.

Pricing shifts year to year with trim changes and incentives, so treat these as 2025 model year starting figures rather than a locked-in 2026 number.

Charging speed compared

Both SUVs charge on CCS at public DC fast chargers, and both run 400-volt architecture rather than the faster 800-volt systems found in some rivals. The EQE SUV peaks at 170 kW. The EQS SUV peaks at 200 kW. In practice, that’s roughly a 30-minute 10-80% charge for the EQE SUV and a similar window for the EQS SUV, since the larger battery offsets some of the higher peak power.

Owner reports on charging forums suggest real-world speeds sometimes land below the advertised peaks, particularly on the EQE SUV, so treat the 170 kW and 200 kW figures as ceilings rather than guarantees.

EQE SUV vs EQS SUV size and cargo space

This is where the two cars diverge most. The EQE SUV offers roughly 55 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded (Mercedes doesn’t publish a separate behind-seats figure for this trim, so treat that number as an upper bound). It’s a five-seat, two-row SUV, full stop.

The EQS SUV is a genuinely bigger vehicle. Standard two-row versions offer around 23 to 31 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 74 cubic feet folded, and Mercedes offers an optional third row on top of that. Reviewers consistently note that third row is tight and that cargo space behind it shrinks to around 7 cubic feet when it’s in use, so it’s more of an occasional-use seat than a genuine seven-seater replacement.

EQE SUV pros and cons

  • Pros: balanced range for the price, agile handling for an SUV this size, strong efficiency
  • Cons: smaller cargo space than the EQS SUV, range trails the segment’s longest-range options

EQS SUV pros and cons

  • Pros: longer range, more cargo room, optional third row, flagship tech including the Hyperscreen
  • Cons: higher starting price, large footprint that’s harder to park, third row is cramped in practice

Which one should you buy?

If you want a capable daily-driver EV with real luxury touches and don’t need maximum range or a third row, the EQE SUV is the more sensible buy, and it’s roughly $27,000 cheaper to start. If range, cargo room, or occasional extra seating matter more than the price gap, the EQS SUV earns its position at the top of the lineup.

Beyond these two, Mercedes’ EV lineup also includes the compact EQB and the EQS sedan, which shares the EQS SUV’s platform in a lower-slung body. The EQE SUV’s closest non-Mercedes rival in this segment is the Volvo EX90, while both Mercedes SUVs compete with the BMW iX at the larger end.

Specs above reflect published 2025 model year figures as of September 2026 and are subject to change with new model years. For verified range and efficiency data, see the EPA/California alternative fuel vehicle database.
