Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender delayed with reduced range.

Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender has encountered yet another setback. The optional range extender, which was expected to greatly expand the truck’s operating distance, has been delayed and will now provide less range than previously promised.

Tesla introduced the Cybertruck in 2019, promising a tri-motor version with a range of over 500 miles. Unfortunately, when the company finally revealed the actual specifications, the tri-motor Cybertruck started at $100,000 and had a range of only 320 miles. To solve range problems, Tesla introduced a range extender that adds an extra battery pack to the truck’s bed.

Initially, Tesla stated that its range extender would boost the dual-motor Cybertruck’s range from 340 miles to over 470 miles, and the tri-motor Cybertruck’s range from 320 miles to over 440. That has also altered, and the corporation has decreased these numbers.

According to report, The range extender will now provide an estimated 440 miles of range for the dual-motor Cybertruck, a 25-mile reduction from the previous projection. The range of the tri-motor version with the extender remains at 440 miles with conventional tires, but lowers to 415 miles with all-terrain tires.

Adding to the disappointment, Tesla has moved the range extender’s release schedule from early 2025 to mid-2025. And it won’t be inexpensive. The range extender is projected to cost $16,000 and will be fitted (and then removed) at a Tesla service center.

Note

The Tesla Cybertruck is a battery electric pickup truck built by Tesla, Inc. since 2023. Introduced as a concept vehicle in November 2019, it has a controversial body design reminiscent of low-polygon modelling, consisting of flat stainless steel sheet panels.

Tesla initially planned to produce the vehicle in late 2021, but after many delays, it entered production in mid-2023 and was first delivered to customers in November 2023. Two models are currently offered: a tri-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) model called Cyberbeast, and a dual-motor AWD model. A single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) model is slated to be available in 2025. EPA range estimates cover 250–340 miles (400–550 km), varying by model. As of December 2023, the Cybertruck was available only in North America.
