Toyota is expanding its EV roster with the new Urban Cruiser EV, a small electric SUV. The Urban Cruiser, which will make its premiere in January 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show, provides a glimpse into Toyota’s electric future.
Toyota’s Urban Cruiser is based on the e-Vitara, but features individual headlights and taillights. The inside receives certain Toyota-specific touches, but the overall layout and features remain essentially unchanged, including a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen screen.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Features and Details
Despite its diminutive size, the Urban Cruiser boasts a large cabin because to its generous 106.3-inch wheelbase. The rear seats have sliding and reclining functions. Toyota claims the cabin may be as large as a midsize SUV, while being only 168.7 inches in length.
The Urban Cruiser will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, with three power outputs and two lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery options. FWD models offer either 142 hp (106 kW) or 172 hp (128 kW), while the AWD version gets 182 hp (135 kW) from a dual-motor setup. Battery options include a 49 kWh unit (FWD only) and a 61 kWh unit (FWD and AWD).
Toyota has yet to reveal official WLTP range data, but the Urban Cruiser includes features such as an energy-saving heat pump for the air conditioning and a manually triggered battery pre-heating mode to improve efficiency, particularly in colder locations.
The Urban Cruiser joins Toyota’s expanding European lineup. The business intends to have 15 zero-emission vehicles in its lineup by 2026, including six battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) based on dedicated platforms.
