iCaur V25

The iCaur V25 is a mid-size SUV from Chery’s iCaur sub-brand (badged iCAR in China), unveiled in August 2026 at the Chengdu Auto Show. It’s a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV), pairing a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric drivetrain, and it fills the gap between the compact, EV-only V23 and the larger V27. What makes the V25 notable isn’t performance or price — those aren’t confirmed yet — but positioning: it’s the brand’s first mid-size entry, built to widen the iCaur lineup without cannibalizing either sibling model. The final drivetrain layout (single motor vs. dual-motor AWD) is still inconsistent across early reports and hasn’t been officially confirmed.

On the powertrain side, the V25 uses a 33.68 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering an EV-only range of roughly 145–150 km on the WLTC cycle. Once the battery depletes, the 1.5-litre engine acts purely as a generator, not a direct drive source, extending total range beyond 1,000 km, though Chery hasn’t published an exact combined-range figure. Fuel consumption is rated at 1.52 L/100 km under WLTC. Charging specifications — AC onboard rate, DC peak rate, and 10–80% charge time — have not been disclosed in any regulatory filing or official release so far, and should be treated as unconfirmed until Chery publishes them.

Pricing for the V25 hasn’t been announced. It launched in China in Q4 2026 after its Chengdu debut, with reports pointing to a UAE, Malaysia, and South Africa rollout to follow. Given its size, rugged styling, and range-extender setup, it realistically suits buyers who want SUV-level space and long-distance capability without full EV charging dependence — think family use or light off-road duty rather than daily short-range commuting. Within iCaur’s own lineup, it sits between the compact V23 and the flagship-size V27, giving buyers a mid-tier option without stepping up to the larger model’s footprint. Outside the brand, it lines up against similarly sized hybrid and REEV SUVs like the GWM Haval H7 and the Denza B5, both of which compete on space and extended-range capability rather than pure EV range. For a direct spec-and-price comparison once pricing lands, the Denza B5 is the closest match — same REEV layout, similar mid-size SUV footprint, and overlapping target buyer.
