The DongFeng Seres 3 is a five-door, five-seat compact electric crossover built by DFSK — Dongfeng Sokon Automobile Co., a joint venture under the Dongfeng Motor Group. It sits at the entry level of DFSK’s electric passenger car range, below the larger Seres 5. In China, the same vehicle sells as the Fengon E3. Export markets get the Seres 3 badge, with European rollout beginning in early 2024.
It runs front-wheel drive with a single motor. The platform was originally designed for combustion-engine vehicles, which limits interior packaging efficiency compared to purpose-built EV architectures — worth knowing before comparing it against newer rivals.
Battery: 52 kWh usable / 54 kWh total, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry
Range: 330 km on the WLTP cycle — roughly 205 miles. Real-world figures in mixed urban and highway conditions will sit lower, probably 250–280 km depending on speed and climate.
AC charging: Type 2 at 6.6 kW. A full charge takes around 8 hours, so this is an overnight home charger rather than a quick top-up option.
DC fast charging: CCS2 at up to 100 kW peak. DFSK quotes 20–80% in approximately 30 minutes, which is competitive for this price bracket.
The Seres 3 also supports V2L (vehicle-to-load), meaning it can power external devices directly — a practical feature not common in sub-£32,000 crossovers. The LFP chemistry trades some energy density for a longer cycle life and better thermal stability, which matters for owners in hot climates.
The motor produces 120 kW (161 hp) and 195 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes 8.9 seconds, and top speed is 155 km/h. Adequate for city and highway, not quick by any measure.
Launch market pricing:
For African markets — Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa — no official distribution exists as of mid-2025. Grey-market import estimates through Chinese export agents suggest a landed cost in the ₦18–₦25 million range in Nigeria, though import duties, forex rates, and agent fees make any figure here unconfirmed. Treat it as a rough reference only.
The Seres 3 suits urban commuters or small families who charge at home overnight, stay within 250 km daily, and have access to occasional DC fast charging for longer trips. It is not a strong fit for buyers without reliable home charging.
Where it sits within the DFSK/Seres lineup: Below the Seres 5 (larger, more powerful, higher price). There is no smaller Seres model currently exported.
External rivals at a similar price and segment:
Direct comparison model: MG ZS EV. Both are entry-level FWD electric crossovers with LFP battery options, sub-£33,000 pricing in the UK, and real-world range in the 250–300 km zone. The MG wins on software integration; the Seres 3 counters with V2L support and a heat pump as standard.
