Google is preparing a major upgrade for Android Auto. A new report confirms work on built-in casting support, alongside a refreshed media player interface.
Android Auto May Soon Support Google Cast
Google is developing casting support for Android Auto. Once available, you will be able to cast content directly from your phone or tablet to your car display.
This feature already exists in Android Automotive, the full operating system preinstalled in some vehicles. Extending casting to Android Auto brings feature parity and improves the in-car experience for users who rely on phone-based projection.

Casting Found in Latest Android Auto Beta
Evidence of the new feature appeared in Android Auto version 15.9.655104. This is the latest beta release.
Developers discovered multiple Google Cast-related strings in the app code. This confirms active development rather than early experimentation.
- No user-facing toggle exists yet. The feature remains disabled at this stage.
- Android Auto Media Player Redesign Incoming
- Google is also redesigning the Android Auto media player.
The updated interface adopts more elements from Material 3 Expressive, Google’s latest design system. You should expect:
Cleaner layouts
Improved spacing
More modern visual hierarchy
Better consistency with newer Android UI updates
This redesign focuses on usability and visual clarity while driving.
Release Timeline Still Unclear
Google has not shared an official rollout date for casting support or the media player redesign.
Based on past Android Auto updates, features discovered in beta builds often take several months to reach stable releases.
More details should emerge as development progresses and future beta versions roll out.
