Electrify America Brings Live EV Charger Updates to Google Maps
A new real-time charger availability feature has been added to Google Maps by Electrify America, one of the biggest EV charging networks in North America. This update makes it easier for EV drivers to plan their trips and locate available charging stations more quickly.
Electrify America’s integration improves the accuracy of Google Maps’ current charging station information. Through the well-known Google Maps interface, drivers can now view real-time charger status, including connector types, charging speed, and operational status.
“EV adoption is accelerating, and with it comes the expectation of a seamless charging experience,” said Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America. “By integrating real-time charging station data, we’re empowering drivers with the confidence to go electric.”
Improving the EV Charging Experience
For owners of electric vehicles, this new feature is intended to simplify charger selection and route planning. Drivers can find operational stations more quickly and avoid wait times by displaying the availability of chargers in real time.
Additionally, Electrify America has been utilizing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors to upgrade its network. As more automakers embrace the Tesla developed standard, this action enhances compatibility with an increasing number of EVs.
The majority of stations still support Combined Charging System (CCS-1) connectors, even though NACS ports are becoming more popular and can be found in new models like the 2026 Cadillac Optiq and the upcoming 2027 Chevy Bolt EV.
Another step toward a more intelligent and interconnected EV charging ecosystem is Electrify America’s integration with Google Maps. It’s now simpler than ever to locate a functional charger thanks to real-time updates and increased compatibility.
