The Hongqi Tiangong 05 is a mid-size pure electric fastback sedan produced by FAW’s Hongqi brand. It sits on the brand’s Tiangong platform, which was designed to support sedans, SUVs, and MPVs, and measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. Its drag coefficient reaches 0.213 Cd, and the body features a sloping roofline, retractable door handles, and Y-shaped LED taillights.
The 2026 update brings an 800V high-voltage architecture, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes. CLTC-rated range on this version reaches up to 650 km, and the car supports external discharge at 6 kW. The earlier 400V variants used 62 kWh and 85 kWh LFP battery packs from CATL, with both options offering a 10% to 80% charge in 20 minutes on those older trims. Power comes from a single rear motor producing 210 kW (282 hp) and 317 Nm, with a 0–100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds.
The 2026 800V Tiangong 05 starts from 171,800 yuan (approximately $23,900 USD), placing it in the competitive sub-200,000 yuan segment in China. It suits buyers who prioritise range, charging speed, and tech features over performance figures. Within Hongqi’s own lineup, the Tiangong 08 is the brand’s mid-to-large electric SUV counterpart, while the EH7 is its larger and more expensive electric sedan positioned above the 05. In the same class, the Zeekr 007 and the Tesla Model 3 are the two most direct alternatives buyers would cross-shop. Against the BYD Han, the Tiangong 05 is slightly more affordable at entry level but trails BYD’s wider charging network coverage in China.
