Tesla has launched Actually Smart Summon (ASS) in China, after the feature became available in the US, Europe and the Middle East.
The US electric vehicle (EV) company revealed on Weibo today that Actually Smart Summon is ready in China, allowing Tesla vehicles to autonomously drive to the driver.
Notably, owners using the free Basic Autopilot (BAP) software cannot use the feature because it is only available with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) software. The FSD costs RMB 64,000 ($8,790) in China, whereas the EAP costs RMB 32,000.
The Actually Smart Summon feature, which is exclusive to Tesla Vision and does not depend on any sensors like radar, was proposed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk two years ago.
Tesla eventually introduced Actually Smart Summon in the US in September of this year, and last month the feature was introduced in Europe and the Middle East.
The function enables the owner to call the car from a parking spot to a designated, close-by location. Many EV vehicles from domestic automakers in China already have the smart summon features.
In a Weibo post announcing the Actually Smart Summon feature’s launch in China, Tesla stated that customers who buy a Tesla car through a trade-in now qualify for 90 days of free EAP access.
