Apple‘s long-awaited CarPlay update, which promised to revolutionize in-car infotainment systems, has encountered a stumbling block. The tech behemoth has officially stated that CarPlay 2, which was originally scheduled to appear in 2024, has been postponed indefinitely.
CarPlay is a popular feature for iPhone owners that mirrors their phone screens onto their car’s dashboard displays. This provides easy access to music, navigation, and other apps. CarPlay 2 aimed to be much more ambitious.
It would be integrated into the vehicle’s systems, allowing control over tasks like as climate control, seat adjustments, and even the speedometer. This next-generation technology was also designed to function somewhat independently of the iPhone, providing access to key auto features even without a phone connection.
Many were expected to witness Apple’s take on a completely integrated in-car experience, so the delay comes as a significant disappointment. Apple attributed the delay to continuous engagement with automakers, stating that integrating with many vehicle systems proved more complicated than expected.
Apple has not revealed a revised launch date, but industry insiders believe the delay could be considerable. The original 2024 objective was established in 2022, and Apple had plenty of time to meet it. The lack of a fresh timeframe suggests larger concerns or a complete reconsideration of the project.
