BMW Electric Cars Gain Tesla Supercharger Access

0

Starting December 10, 2025, drivers of BMW electric cars received full access to Tesla Superchargers across the United States. This adds more than 25,000 charging points and gives owners of the BMW i4, iX, and other EVs more flexibility for long trips.

Tesla’s charging connector pushed the US toward a single standard. BMW confirmed the access rollout is live. Drivers now see all compatible Tesla stations in their vehicle’s navigation and in the My BMW app.

Adapter options for BMW electric cars

Current BMW EVs use CCS ports, which differ from the NACS ports used at most Tesla V3 and V4 Superchargers. Owners need a CCS to NACS adapter to plug in at these stations. Third-party adapters already exist, and BMW will release its official version in the second quarter of 2026.

Drivers who want to charge sooner have immediate solutions. Any BMW EV can plug in at Tesla Magic Dock stations because these sites include a built-in CCS adapter. BMW will also start adding native NACS ports beginning with the 2026 BMW i5 M60. Other models, including the upcoming iX3, launch with the same port.

Many non-Tesla EV owners worry about charging workflow differences. Tesla built a simple plug and charge system, and BMW electric cars now support this feature at the newly available stations. You do not need the Tesla app to begin a session. Billing runs through the Shell Recharge account integrated into the My BMW app. Rates follow Tesla’s non-Tesla pricing, with lower costs available through a monthly membership.

Two upcoming BMW models need a software update before gaining access. The 2026 BMW iX and the i5 eDrive40 will receive their remote upgrade during the second quarter of 2026.

This shift expands charging options for BMW electric cars and makes long-distance travel easier across the US.
