The Buick Electra L7, a high-end extended-range electric sedan, was formally introduced in China by Buick, a General Motors subsidiary. With the launch, Buick is making a fresh attempt to compete in the cutthroat new energy vehicle (NEV) market, where demand is still high but rival products are growing quickly.
Buick Electra L7 Launch and Availability
Reservations for the Electra L7 are now being accepted after it was unveiled at a special event in China. The official market launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, with pre-sales starting on September 28. Buick previously suggested that the Electra L7 would cost approximately RMB 300,000 ($41,790), though the exact price has not yet been disclosed.

Dimensions and Design
Built on the Xiao Yao Super Architecture, the Buick Electra L7 is a mid-to-large-size sedan offering an elegant yet commanding road presence. Its dimensions include:
- Length: 5,032 mm
- Width: 1,952 mm
- Height: 1,500 mm
- Wheelbase: 3,000 mm
These proportions place it firmly in the premium electric sedan category, with a focus on comfort, technology, and long-distance capability.

Powertrain and Performance
Buick’s cutting-edge “Zhen Long” extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system is the brains behind the Electra L7. In contrast to traditional hybrids, this system guarantees robust performance even at low battery levels.
- Range Extender: 1.5-liter engine producing 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque
- Electric Motor: 252 kW (338 horsepower) output
- Acceleration: 0–100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds
The sedan has a 302 km electric-only range thanks to GM’s 40.2-kWh Ultium battery pack. The Buick Electra L7 has an amazing 1,400-kilometer total driving range when the tank is full.

Technology and Driver Assistance
Performance is only one aspect of the Buick Electra L7; it also has a ton of cutting-edge smart features. It has a cutting-edge driver assistance system built by Momenta, a Chinese startup focused on autonomous driving and supported by SAIC Motor.
Key capabilities include:
- Urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot)
- Full-scenario driver assistance
- Smart parking assistance
Momenta’s R6 end-to-end AI model powers the system, which improves driving safety and convenience on highways and in cities.
The Electra L7 is also among the first vehicles in China to incorporate the Qualcomm SA8775P cockpit chip, a high-performance in-car computing platform.
The Buick Electra L7 is well-positioned to succeed in China’s expanding premium NEV market thanks to its combination of state-of-the-art EREV technology, long-range capability, luxury styling, and sophisticated driver assistance. The L7, which is positioned under the recently upgraded Electra sub-brand, demonstrates Buick’s desire to take on its top electric sedan competitors.
