The BYD Great Tang, also listed under its Chinese-market name Datang, is a full-size crossover SUV manufactured by BYD Auto, built on BYD’s Super e-Platform and related to the Han L, Tang L, Sealion 08, and Fangchengbao Ti7. It sits above the existing Tang L as BYD’s flagship Dynasty-series SUV and is offered as a battery-electric model in single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive forms, alongside a separate plug-in hybrid (DM-i) version. The Great Tang is a mass-produced version of the Dynasty-D concept shown at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, and it marks BYD’s first Dynasty-badge entry into the D-segment, combining large-SUV scale with hybrid and full-electric powertrain options.
Powertrain & Charging
The rear-wheel-drive Great Tang uses a 300 kW (402 hp) motor and is rated for a CLTC range of 950 km, while the all-wheel-drive dual-motor variant produces 585 kW (784 hp; 795 PS) with a CLTC range closer to 850 km and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds claimed by BYD. These are CLTC figures only — no WLTP or EPA rating exists yet, since the model is currently China-only. On charging, the EV uses BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery on a full-domain 1000V high-voltage architecture, with a 10C flash-charging cell, 1000A charging current, and a peak charging figure of up to 1000 kW. That peak charging number, along with a verified 10–80% charge-time benchmark, is a manufacturer claim from the launch reveal and hasn’t been independently confirmed yet — treat it as preliminary.
Pricing, Fit & Context
Pre-sales opened at 250,000 yuan (about $36,700 USD), with higher trims priced up to 320,000 yuan (about $47,000 USD), and the model exceeded 100,000 pre-sale orders within two weeks of pre-sales opening at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. At ~₦1,360/USD, that’s roughly ₦49.9 million to ₦63.9 million before any import costs — and right now there’s no official distribution path to Nigeria, Kenya, or South Africa, so any unit reaching those markets would arrive grey-market, on top of the yuan-denominated base price.
This is a large-family or fleet-operator vehicle — offered with a 2+2+3 seating layout for seven passengers — not a budget commuter SUV.
