Meet the Citroën e-C3 Aircross. It’s a small, battery-powered SUV from the French manufacturer Citroën (part of the Stellantis group), and it’s aimed firmly at the entry-level end of the market.
In simple terms: it’s a front-wheel-drive (FWD), five-door compact SUV. But here’s the thing that makes you do a double-take – it can seat up to seven people. That’s right. In a vehicle just under 4.4 metres long, Citroën has squeezed in a third row. No other electric SUV in this segment currently offers that.
Let’s talk numbers. The e-C3 Aircross comes with a 44 kWh usable battery (the LFP type, which is cheaper and lasts longer). According to Citroën’s pre-production data, you’re looking at around 300 km (186 miles) of WLTP range. Keep in mind: final homologation isn’t out yet, so treat that as a solid estimate, not a promise.
Charging? You get an 11 kW AC on-board charger as standard. On a DC fast charger, it peaks at 100 kW. That means a 10% to 80% top-up in roughly 26 minutes – not class-leading, but perfectly fine for a budget family EV.
A quick note: the final WLTP figures and charging curves aren’t officially certified for all trims yet. These numbers come from manufacturer previews.
In Europe (its main launch market), the Citroën e-C3 Aircross starts at around €19,400 and goes up to about €27,000 for top-spec versions. That’s genuinely affordable for a multi-row EV.
Who is this for? Honestly? Small families who occasionally need to haul extra kids or neighbours. Think school runs, weekend trips to the park, or even ride-share drivers who want something more practical than a tiny hatchback.
Where does it fit in Citroën’s own range? It sits neatly between the smaller ë-C3 hatchback and the sleeker ë-C4 X fastback.
What about rivals? Outside the brand, you’re looking at the BYD Atto 3 (pricier) and the Hyundai Kona Electric (similar size, but strictly five seats).
Closest match on paper? The MG ZS EV (Standard Range) – similar battery size, similar price, but again, no third row.
The Citroën e-C3 Aircross isn’t trying to be a luxury spaceship. It’s a clever, budget-friendly electric SUV that solves a very specific problem: how to carry six people in an EV without spending a fortune. If you live in Europe, need five seats most days and seven occasionally, and care more about practicality than prestige – this one deserves a look.
