The Jeep Recon is a battery-electric midsize SUV starting at $65,000. It is the first Trail Rated EV Jeep has produced, and the only battery-electric vehicle currently on sale with removable doors and a removable swing gate glass panel. It launched in early 2026 built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain.
The Recon uses two electric motors producing a combined 650 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. Four-wheel drive is standard across all trims. Jeep quotes a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. The powertrain runs on a 400-volt architecture, paired with a 100.5 kWh battery pack using nickel manganese cobalt chemistry. Steel skid plates protect the battery and drivetrain underneath — a design choice that adds weight but keeps the hardware relevant for actual trail use.
EPA-rated range is 230 miles in the launch Moab trim. Other trims are rated at 250 miles (EPA). The gap between the two comes down to the Moab’s 33-inch all-terrain tires and blunt aerodynamic profile, not a smaller battery. At over 6,100 lbs of curb weight, range was always going to be a trade-off. Buyers cross-shopping pure-range EVs will find better options at this price — that is not what this vehicle is built for.
The Recon starts at $65,000 in the US, rising to approximately $68,585 for the Moab trim as configured. A $1,995 destination charge applies. It does not qualify for the federal EV tax credit — production is at Stellantis’ Toluca plant in Mexico, which falls outside the domestic assembly requirement.
For buyers in Nigeria, Kenya, or South Africa, no official Jeep distribution network covers the Recon. Grey-market import into Nigeria would realistically land above ₦120 million after customs duty and clearing fees at current exchange rates. There is no confirmed timeline for right-hand-drive availability.
Within Jeep’s EV range, the Recon sits alongside the Wagoneer S ($65,200, 294 miles EPA) — a road-focused electric SUV that shares the same platform but targets a different buyer. Below both sits the Wrangler 4xe, a plug-in hybrid that undercuts them significantly on price and keeps a petrol engine for buyers not ready to go fully electric.
The Rivian R1S is the most direct like-for-like rival. Both are capable all-terrain EVs priced above $65,000 aimed at buyers who actually use off-road capability. The R1S is larger (three-row seating), carries considerably more range in most configurations, and has been on the market longer — giving Rivian a reliability dataset Jeep doesn’t yet have on the Recon. The Recon counters with its Trail Rated badge, removable doors, and the open-air experience that Rivian does not offer. The Scout Traveler and Land Rover Defender also draw direct comparisons at this price and segment.
