The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is the world’s first all-electric four-seat luxury convertible. Built by Maserati — the Italian luxury brand under Stellantis — it sits at the top of the GranCabrio lineup and is the flagship model in the brand’s Folgore electric range. The body is a 2+2 soft-top convertible, the drivetrain is all-wheel drive via three permanent-magnet motors (one front, two rear), and the car shares its 800V Atlantis platform with the GranTurismo Folgore coupe. No other mass-production electric convertible holds the four-seat configuration — that alone defines its market position.
The battery is a T-shaped 92.5 kWh lithium-ion pack with 83 kWh usable capacity. The T layout sits the cells between and behind the passengers, keeping them low in the chassis and out of the floor tunnel — a requirement for maintaining the GranCabrio’s proportions. The architecture is 800V.
EPA-rated range is 233 miles (combined). Under the European WLTP cycle, the figure varies by drive mode: 419 km (260 miles) in Corsa, up to 447 km (278 miles) in Max Range. Both figures are official and confirmed. WLTP figures apply to European markets; the EPA figure applies to the US. Real-world results will sit below either rating depending on speed, roof position, and temperature.
For AC charging, the onboard charger accepts up to 22 kW, which adds approximately 100 km of WLTP range per hour. For DC fast charging, the car supports up to 270 kW peak via CCS. The 20–80% charge benchmark is 18 minutes — that is Maserati’s own figure under ideal conditions, using a compatible 800V station. The car also carries an onboard DC-DC converter that steps up lower-voltage DC supply to the 800V level the battery requires, which improves compatibility at older infrastructure. A full 0–100% DC charge takes approximately 40 minutes.
The GranCabrio Folgore starts at $206,995 in the US market, including the $1,995 destination charge. It does not qualify for the federal EV tax credit — it is imported from Italy and its price exceeds the program’s $55,000 cap. Options, which include paint upgrades, interior materials, and driver assistance packs, can push the as-tested price past $225,000.
The buyer is someone with a specific need: open-air motoring in a luxury EV, with Italian brand identity as a priority. It is not a practical choice for range-sensitive buyers or those without home charging infrastructure.
Within Maserati’s EV range, the GranCabrio Folgore sits above the GranTurismo Folgore ($192,000) — same powertrain, closed roof — and below the forthcoming MC20 Folgore supercar. Both Folgore grand tourers share the same 800V platform, motors, battery, and charging hardware.
The two closest external competitors by segment and price are the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Lotus Emeya R. Both are electric performance grand tourers at a comparable price point. Neither is a convertible, but they compete directly on performance, range, and buyer profile.
Range is where the gap is clear. The Taycan and Emeya each approach 400 miles under WLTP, compared to 278 miles for the GranCabrio Folgore. The Porsche also benefits from wider charging network compatibility and stronger residual values. The Maserati’s advantage is the body style — it is the only vehicle in this bracket offered as a drop-top — and the Italian grand-tourer character that neither German nor British rival replicates.
The closest single comparison model for spec and price is the Porsche Taycan Turbo S: similar 0–60 mph performance, overlapping retail price, and the same performance EV buyer demographic.
