Nio’s budget EV brand, Firefly, is gearing up for a major debut with its first model simply called the Nio Firefly. The brand showcased the car in late December, and since then, the compact EV has been spotted undergoing winter durability testing. Today, the Nio Firefly has taken a big step forward after receiving full certification for sale in China.
This certification process also revealed official images and key specifications. Here’s everything we know so far.
Nio Firefly Powertrain and Performance
The Nio Firefly comes with a single electric motor producing 105 kW (140 hp / 142 PS). This gives the EV a top speed of 93 mph, making it suitable for daily urban and suburban driving.
Powering the vehicle is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by Sunwoda. While the exact battery capacity remains undisclosed, Nio’s use of LFP tech hints at strong durability, long cycle life, and competitive pricing—key selling points in this segment.

Dimensions and Weight
The Nio Firefly is designed as a compact city-friendly EV:
- Length: 4,003 mm
- Width: 1,781 mm
- Height: 1,557 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,615 mm
- Weight: 1,492 kg
These dimensions put the Firefly in the same class as small European hatchbacks, which aligns with Nio’s plan to position Firefly as its affordable, Europe-focused brand.

Nio Firefly Price and Availability
The Nio Firefly opened for pre-orders in China last month with a starting price of CNY 148,800 (around $20,300). This makes it one of Nio’s most affordable EVs ever and a strong competitor in the entry-level electric vehicle market.
The compact EV will be fully unveiled in April, with European deliveries expected by the end of June. Its competitive pricing, small footprint, and efficient LFP battery could make it an appealing option for urban EV buyers across Europe.
