Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S: New Infotainment, More Power, Bigger Range, and Smarter Tech

0

Volkswagen has officially unveiled the refreshed Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S, bringing significant upgrades to one of its most popular electric hatchbacks. The latest update focuses heavily on improving the infotainment system—an area where previous models received widespread criticism. While current owners won’t benefit from this overhaul, new buyers should experience a much smoother interface.

More Power and Better Range for the Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S

The updated Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S now delivers 170 kW (231 PS) of power and offers up to 347 miles WLTP range. That’s a noticeable improvement, especially for long-distance EV drivers.

Charging has also been improved:

  • Up to 175 kW DC fast charging
  • Battery pre-conditioning for faster charging sessions
  • Route planning with up to 10 charging stops that can be synced from your phone to the car

However, there’s a catch. The full 170 kW power output is standard only in Germany. Buyers in other markets will need to pay extra via Volkswagen’s function-on-demand system to unlock the higher output.

When unlocked, the 170 kW upgrade improves the 0–62 mph time to 7.1 seconds.

Pre-Sales Begin With New Features and a 77 kWh Battery

Volkswagen has opened pre-sales for the ID.3 Pro S with a 77 kWh net battery and a five-seat configuration. More variants are scheduled to follow soon as VW expands the refreshed lineup.

Revamped Infotainment System and Interior Improvements

One of the biggest updates is the completely redesigned infotainment setup:

  • Larger 12.9-inch touchscreen
  • A more intuitive menu structure
  • Improved multifunction steering wheel controls
  • A repositioned driving mode selector (now on the steering column like the ID.7)

Unfortunately, VW kept the touch sliders for temperature and volume. To make them more tolerable, VW encourages the use of the IDA voice assistant, which now supports natural language commands, Wikipedia access, and even ChatGPT integration.

New Wellness App and Premium Audio Option

Volkswagen is introducing a Wellness app designed to enhance comfort with lighting, sound, and climate presets. At launch, three modes will be available:

  • Fresh Up
  • Calm Down
  • Power Break

Users can also customize these modes—for example, by choosing a Spotify playlist instead of built-in sounds.

Audiophiles can upgrade to an optional 480W Harman Kardon 12-channel sound system, featuring four presets and a customizable EQ.

Advanced Driver Assistance Upgrades

The refreshed Volkswagen ID.3 Pro S includes several new driver-assistance features:

  • Remote parking via smartphone
  • Enhanced Travel Assist with swarm data for improved lane guidance and automated lane changes
  • Exit warning system that can momentarily prevent door opening if traffic approaches from behind
