Two full-size six-seat luxury SUVs from China are drawing serious attention — the XPeng GX and the AITO M9. The GX is XPeng’s most expensive vehicle yet, built to compete directly with the Li Auto L9, AITO M9, and NIO ES8 in China’s premium six-seat SUV segment. The M9, backed by Huawei, started deliveries in February 2024 and quickly became a major market success, with over 170,000 units delivered. Both target high-income families who want Chinese technology at a fraction of European luxury pricing — and this comparison matters now because the GX launched in April 2026, making a direct head-to-head finally possible.

Range & Charging
The XPeng GX BEV delivers up to 750 km of range on an 800-volt silicon carbide platform with 5C fast charging capability. The base BEV trim is rated at around 650 km, and its 800V architecture enables a 10–80% charge in approximately 12 minutes. All figures are CLTC. Real-world range in mixed conditions should realistically sit around 500–520 km. The AITO M9 BEV uses a 100 kWh battery rated at 630 km under CLTC, while the EREV variant extends total range to 1,474 km combined. Fast charging time for the M9 is quoted at approximately 15–30 minutes. Real-world BEV range for the M9 is closer to 480–500 km. The GX has a clear edge in pure charging speed; the M9’s EREV option eliminates range anxiety entirely for long-distance drivers.
Price, Availability & Market Fit
The XPeng GX is priced between 279,800 and 359,800 yuan ($41,100–$52,900) with BEV and EREV variants, with a limited-time 10,000-yuan early-order discount. The AITO M9 starts at 469,800 yuan ($64,860) and goes up to 569,800 yuan across seven trims, covering 5-seat, 6-seat, BEV, and EREV configurations. Both are sold in China only through official channels. For African buyers, both are accessible only via grey-market import — estimated NGN 80–130M for the GX and NGN 110–160M for the M9 depending on spec, exchange rate, and clearing costs. The GX is the better buy if budget is a constraint; the M9 makes sense if Huawei’s ecosystem and brand cachet are priorities.
Ecosystem & Rival Context
XPeng’s relevant lineup includes the G9 and G6 for buyers who want a step down in size or price. AITO’s M8 and M7 cover similar family SUV ground at lower price points. Outside both brands, the NIO ES8 and Li Auto L9 sit in the same segment and are worth considering — but neither matches the GX’s charging speed or the M9’s Huawei smart cabin integration, which is what makes this comparison still the most useful starting point.
Pros & Cons
XPeng GX The GX’s 5C ultra-fast charging means urban buyers spend far less time at charging stations, a practical daily advantage. Its lower starting price makes the premium six-seat segment more accessible without meaningful sacrifice in space or technology. L4-ready autonomous hardware with 3,000 TOPS computing power positions the GX for long-term software value through updates. On the downside, the brand lacks AITO’s Huawei ecosystem depth, which matters for buyers already invested in Huawei devices. It also has a shorter sales and reliability track record compared to the M9.
AITO M9 The M9’s EREV option solves long-distance travel completely, a genuine advantage where charging infrastructure is sparse or unreliable. Huawei’s smart cockpit and four-LiDAR setup deliver one of the most polished in-car tech experiences available today. Strong resale confidence backed by over 170,000 deliveries makes ownership less of a gamble. However, the M9 starts significantly higher than the GX, putting it out of reach for buyers near the segment’s entry point. DC fast charging, while adequate, is noticeably slower than the GX’s 5C system.
Quick Verdict
Choose the XPeng GX if charging speed, value, and future-proof autonomy hardware matter most. Choose the AITO M9 if you want Huawei’s ecosystem, proven reliability, or the flexibility of an EREV powertrain for long-haul travel. The price gap between them is real — roughly $13,000–$23,000 at base — and that alone will settle the decision for many buyers.

CLTC range figures overstate real-world performance in non-Chinese conditions. WLTP or EPA equivalents not yet published. DC peak charging kW and AC onboard rate are unconfirmed for the GX specifically — flagged ⚠️ throughout.
Trim names include Max and Ultra. The Ultra version is more expensive and includes more features. Refresh in 2025 removed the 42 kWh battery in newer EREV trims and standardized on 52 kWh. Optional aesthetic / comfort upgrades: two-tone paint, retractable running boards, gesture-controlled doors, enhanced projector & storage features etc. |
| Editor's Note | This is a launch-period spec sheet. Several technical details remain unpublished by XPeng. All ⚠️ entries should be reverified once full technical documentation or independent test data is available. |
