PROS

  1. The FWD Long Range variant claims up to 740 km WLTP combined — a segment-leading range figure for a compact SUV in its class.
  2. The 97.2 kWh battery charges from 20% to 80% in 27 minutes at 160 kW DC with thermal preconditioning active
  3. Standard equipment includes DS Night Vision with 300-metre pedestrian detection, DS Pixelvision adaptive headlights, a 16-inch central touchscreen with ChatGPT integration

CONS

  1. A 160 kW DC peak charging rate is below what several premium segment rivals now offer — the BMW iX3 (Neue Klasse) and Mercedes-Benz CLA accept 320–400 kW
  2. DS Automobiles has no official dealer or distribution network in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, or South Africa; grey-market import pricing

The DS N°7 E-Tense is a mid-range premium compact SUV from DS Automobiles, the Stellantis-owned French luxury brand. Built on the STLA Medium platform, the N°7 measures 4.66 metres in length and is available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, with three fully electric E-Tense powertrain variants spanning 230 hp to 350 hp. It is the direct replacement for the nine-year-old DS 7, marking DS’s first model on the new STLA Medium platform — the same architecture underpinning the Peugeot E-3008 and E-5008.

Powertrain & Charging

Two battery sizes are offered: a 73.7 kWh pack in the entry E-Tense FWD and a 97.2 kWh pack in the Long Range variants. The FWD Long Range delivers up to 740 km on the WLTP combined cycle, while the AWD Long Range claims 679 km; the standard FWD version returns up to 543 km WLTP. All figures apply to the WLTP combined cycle. Standard AC onboard charging is 11 kW, with an optional 22 kW three-phase charger available on higher trim levels. DC fast charging peaks at 160 kW, with the 97.2 kWh battery charging from 20% to 80% in approximately 27 minutes (31 minutes for the 73.7 kWh battery) when thermal preconditioning is active; charging power holds at 160 kW between 20% and 55% state of charge, recovering 190 km of range in 10 minutes. DS does not publish a 10–80% figure; the 20–80% benchmark above is the manufacturer’s stated reference. A 10–80% time has not been confirmed at the time of writing.

Pricing, Fit & Context

In France, pricing starts at €46,990 for the E-Tense FWD, rising to €50,610 for the FWD Long Range and reaching €77,520 for the flagship AWD Long Range La Première. Orders in Germany are set to open in May 2026, with full market launch scheduled for autumn 2026. No sub-Saharan Africa pricing or official importation has been confirmed; grey-market import costs into Nigeria or Kenya would likely place the entry E-Tense above ₦80–90 million at current exchange rates, putting it firmly out of mass-market reach. The DS N°7 suits a professional or fleet buyer seeking a premium long-range EV with European luxury positioning — corporate fleets, diplomats, and high-net-worth individuals in markets where DS has an established dealer presence. Within the DS lineup, the N°7 sits between the compact DS N°4 saloon below it and the DS N°8 flagship introduced in 2025. External competitors at a similar segment and price include the Audi Q4 e-tron and the BMW iX1, both of which DS directly references as rivals in the premium C-SUV segment. The closest direct comparison for spec and price is the Peugeot E-5008 Long Range, which shares the same STLA Medium platform and 97.2 kWh battery but is positioned as a mainstream rather than premium product.

Editor's Note Several body, suspension, weight, and interior specs remain unpublished pending full market launch (autumn 2026). All range figures are WLTP combined cycle. No official pricing or availability for Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, or South Africa at time of writing.
