PROS

  1. Shares its AEP 3.0 platform with the Toyota bZ3X, lending the architecture a level of engineering credibility uncommon at this price.
  2. 180kW DC peak charging delivering a 10–80% top-up in ~24 minutes is fast for an LFP-battery SUV in this segment.
  3. The Luxury trim adds genuine leather seating, massaging front seats, a second-row tray table, and a 6.6-litre built-in fridge — an unusual feature-to-price ratio.

CONS

  1. The LFP battery chemistry is less energy-dense than NMC alternatives, and at highway speeds or in hot climates energy consumption can climb sharply toward 25kWh/100km and above, compressing real-world range significantly.
  2. GAC has no established dealer or service network across West, East, or Southern Africa, meaning the Aion V is a grey-market-only option in most of the continent with no warranty support.

The GAC Aion V 2026 is a mid-segment, five-door electric SUV produced by Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) under its Aion EV sub-brand. It is a second-generation model built on GAC’s dedicated Architecture Electric Platform 3.0, a chassis that also underpins the Toyota bZ3X as part of a joint venture between the two firms. It is front-wheel drive with a single motor configuration. The Aion V’s significance lies in that platform tie-up with Toyota — an unusual validation for a Chinese brand’s architecture at this price point.

The motor is fed by a 75.3kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, which delivers a WLTP-claimed range of 510km. DC fast charging peaks at 180kW, with GAC claiming a 10–80% charge in around 24 minutes on a compatible charger. AC home charging is supported at 11kW, with a full charge from a wallbox estimated at 8.5 hours. The usable battery capacity has not been officially confirmed by GAC — the 75.3kWh figure is the gross/nominal rating as stated in all published spec sheets to date.

The Aion V is priced from AUD $42,590 before on-road costs for the Premium variant, with the Luxury sitting at $44,590. No official pricing exists for African markets; grey-market import from China into Nigeria would land it in the ₦35–45 million range (approximately $22,000–$28,000 USD) depending on spec and port of entry, though this is unconfirmed. The buyer profile is urban families and dual-income households seeking a well-equipped electric SUV without crossing the $45,000 threshold. Within GAC’s Aion lineup, the V sits above the compact Aion UT and below the larger, flagship Aion LX. External competition comes from the BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla Model Y, with the BYD Sealion 7 being the closest spec-and-price match for direct comparison.
