The GAC Aion i60 is a compact electric SUV from Chinese automaker GAC Aion. The model sits in the middle of the brand’s EV lineup and targets buyers who want an affordable electric crossover with practical range and modern charging technology. It uses a five-door SUV design with a front-wheel-drive configuration across most variants. GAC also introduced both battery-electric and range-extended versions for the i60, making it one of the first Aion models offered with two electrified powertrain setups.
The SUV rides on GAC’s AEP 3.0 electric platform, which supports improved battery integration and faster charging capability compared with older Aion models. The i60 also focuses on efficiency and interior space rather than high-performance driving. That positions it directly against affordable EV crossovers from BYD, MG, and Geely in China and export markets.
The fully electric GAC Aion i60 uses lithium iron phosphate battery packs with capacities ranging from about 62.2 kWh to 75 kWh depending on trim level. Output reaches up to 165 kW from a single front-mounted electric motor. Chinese CLTC range estimates vary between 400 km and 650 km, depending on battery size and wheel configuration.
Real-world driving range is lower than CLTC figures. Estimated WLTP-equivalent range falls closer to 310 km to 510 km under mixed driving conditions. Buyers should treat export-market figures carefully because GAC has not finalized global certification data for every region.
The range-extended EREV version combines a smaller 29.16 kWh battery with a 1.5-liter petrol engine used strictly as a generator. GAC claims total combined driving range above 1,200 km under the CLTC cycle. This version targets drivers who want EV driving in cities without relying fully on charging infrastructure during long-distance trips.
Charging performance is one of the stronger areas of the i60. DC fast charging supports peak rates close to 3C charging on some trims. GAC states the battery charges from 30 percent to 80 percent in about 15 to 20 minutes under ideal conditions. AC charging through home charging equipment takes roughly 7 to 8 hours for a full recharge.
Some charging specifications remain unconfirmed because several figures originated from launch previews and regional leaks instead of finalized production documentation.
In China, the GAC Aion i60 starts at around 109,800 yuan, which equals roughly $15,000 USD before taxes and import costs. Higher trims reach approximately 135,800 yuan, or about $19,000 USD. That pricing places the SUV in the affordable compact EV category.
The i60 fits commuters, small families, ride-hailing operators, and fleet buyers who need lower operating costs with crossover practicality. Interior packaging focuses on passenger space and daily usability rather than premium luxury features.
Inside the Aion lineup, the i60 sits between the smaller GAC Aion UT and the larger GAC Aion V. The closest external rivals include the BYD Atto 3 and the MG ZS EV.
The strongest comparison angle comes against the BYD Atto 3 because both vehicles share similar battery sizes, front-wheel-drive layouts, and pricing targets. The Aion i60 undercuts the Atto 3 on entry pricing in China while offering competitive charging times and comparable driving range figures.
As Chinese EV brands expand into Southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, and parts of Europe, the GAC Aion i60 enters one of the fastest-growing sections of the global electric vehicle market.
