The MG Comet EV doesn’t try to compete with anything else on India’s roads. At just over three meters long, it looks like it wandered off a golf course and into traffic — and that’s basically the idea behind it.
MG builds the Comet around a 17.3 kWh LFP battery pack paired to a single motor making 42 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. ARAI’s MIDC cycle certifies range at 230 km, though CarWale’s real-world testing landed closer to 191 km, and owners doing mostly city driving report figures in the 150–180 km range per charge. That gap between the certified number and what you’ll actually see is normal for any EV, but it’s worth planning around if you’re cross-shopping.
MG Comet EV Acceleration won’t get anyone excited: 0-60 km/h takes 6.9 seconds, 0-100 km/h takes 19.9 seconds, and top speed is capped at 85 km/h. None of that matters much for a car whose job is weaving through city traffic and fitting into parking spots most hatchbacks can’t touch. At 165mm, ground clearance handles speed bumps and potholes without drama.
Charging is unremarkable in a good way. A 3.3kW charger takes about seven hours for a full charge; step up to 7.4kW and that drops to roughly 3.5 hours. Neither number will impress anyone used to highway-capable EVs, but the Comet was never built for highway duty.
Inside, MG fits two 10.25-inch displays and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, which is more than you’d expect at this price. Seating is a four-person, three-door layout, and reviewers keep flagging the same two complaints: thin thigh support and cramped rear space. Boot space with the rear seats up is effectively nonexistent, per most reviews.
Pricing runs from ₹7.80 lakh to ₹10.07 lakh ex-showroom as of September 2026 for the MG Comet EV, across seven variants under the Executive, Excite, and Exclusive trims. MG also offers a Battery-as-a-Service option: buy the car from ₹4.99 lakh and rent the battery separately at ₹3.2 per kilometer, which lowers the upfront cost if your yearly mileage is low. MG has pushed through two price increases this year — up to 2% in January, up to 3% in July — citing rising input costs.
Battery capacity is reported inconsistently across sources (17.3 kWh in most listings, 17.4 kWh in a few others); treat 17.3 kWh as the more commonly cited figure pending direct confirmation from MG’s spec sheet.
Who actually wants this? Someone doing short city commutes who cares more about parking ease than anything else. It won’t haul a family, and it won’t do a highway trip without complaint. But nothing else sold in India right now answers “what should my second car be” quite the way the Comet does — tiny wheels, three doors, near-flat bonnet and all, no attempt made to look like a normal hatchback. Whether that reads as charming or impractical probably comes down to how much boot space you actually use in a given week.
