PROS

  1. Low energy use on foil reduces power draw.
  2. Smooth ride above waves.
  3. Zero exhaust emissions on water.

CONS

  1. High purchase cost.
  2. Limited range compared with fuel boats.

The Candela C-8 is an electric hydrofoil boat. It sits in the leisure marine EV segment. The body type looks like a small yacht with foils under the hull that lift it above water.

The battery is a high-capacity marine pack with range up to about 50 nautical miles at foil speed. Range falls on traditional displacement mode. It charges on AC power at marinas or at home docks with compatible EV charger hardware.

Price sits well above mass-market EV cars and boats because of tech. It suits buyers who want low wake, low drag water travel and low noise. Other electric models from Candela include the Candela P-12 and Candela Seven. Alternatives include the QuietKat Amphibious and the Vision Marine E-Reflex. Compared with a Tesla Model Y, the C-8 is for water use not road use.

FAQ

What speed does the C-8 reach?

The C-8 reaches about 30 knots in hydrofoil mode. Cruising speed stays closer to 20 to 22 knots for best efficiency.

How long does full charging take?

AC charging on an 11 kW dock charger takes around five to six hours from low state of charge.

Is maintenance different from normal boats?
