Maxus eTerron 9: Europe’s First AWD Mid-Size Electric Pickup Truck

0

The Maxus eTerron 9 has made history as the first all-wheel-drive mid-size electric pickup truck to hit European roads. While Ford introduced the F-150 Lightning in Norway earlier this year, it never fully committed to the segment—leaving Maxus to take the spotlight with this powerful and versatile electric truck.

Power and Performance

The Maxus eTerron 9 is equipped with dual electric motors—one on each axle. The front motor delivers 170 hp, while the rear offers 272 hp, resulting in a combined output of 442 hp. This setup enables impressive performance numbers, including a towing capacity of 3,493 kg and a payload capacity of 620 kg.

Under the hood (and floor), a 102 kWh battery powers the eTerron 9, offering an official range of 267 miles (WLTP). When recharging, it supports DC fast charging up to 115 kW, enabling a 20–80% charge in around 40 minutes.

All-Terrain Capability

Designed for adventure, the eTerron 9 comes with the All-Terrain System (ATS) featuring six drive modes—Normal, Mud, Sand, and more. Drivers can also customize individual settings for steering response, engine power, suspension, energy recovery, and stability control, allowing a tailored driving experience across different terrains.

Power On the Go

The Maxus eTerron 9 isn’t just a pickup—it’s a mobile power station. With bi-directional charging capabilities, it features multiple 2.2 kW outlets in the 236-liter frunk and a 6.6 kW socket in the 2.4-meter-long truck bed. This setup allows users to power tools, camping gear, or other electronic devices directly from the vehicle.

Interior Comfort and Features

Inside, the eTerron 9 offers a premium experience with leather-clad, ventilated, and massaging seats. Both front seats can recline to form a near-flat sleeping area—ideal for overnight adventures. The Easy Load mode lowers the suspension by 60mm for convenient loading. Standard driver-assist technologies include Lane Departure Warning and various other safety features.

Size, Pricing, and Launch

At 5.5 meters long, the Maxus eTerron 9 is slightly larger than a Ford Ranger but over 30 cm shorter than the F-150 Lightning. While pricing hasn’t been officially announced, it’s expected to sit above the Maxus T90EV, which starts at $68,600 in the UK before VAT.

Maxus plans to open orders in October 2025, with deliveries starting in January 2025.

The arrival of the Maxus eTerron 9 marks a major milestone for electric utility vehicles in Europe. Combining rugged performance, real-world versatility, and advanced EV technology, it sets a new benchmark in the all-electric pickup segment. It will be fascinating to see how it stacks up against competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T, especially if Maxus manages to price it well below the $95,000 European F-150.
