The HiPhi Y is a premium electric SUV from Human Horizons under the HiPhi lineup. Positioned below the larger HiPhi X, the HiPhi Y targets buyers looking for a high-tech midsize EV with longer driving range and luxury-focused features. It belongs to the midsize electric SUV segment and comes in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions. The SUV uses a five-door body style with a design focused on aerodynamics and smart vehicle technology. One key detail about the HiPhi Y is its role as the brand’s first model aimed at a broader premium EV market instead of the ultra-luxury category.
The HiPhi Y battery options include an 86.6 kWh pack and a larger 115 kWh pack in higher trims. Depending on configuration, the SUV delivers up to 810 km of CLTC-rated electric range. Since the CLTC cycle is more generous than WLTP or EPA testing, real-world driving range is lower in daily use. Rear-wheel-drive models produce around 247 kW, while dual-motor AWD variants exceed 370 kW combined output. AC charging supports up to 11 kW, which suits overnight home charging and workplace charging setups. DC fast charging reaches approximately 250 kW under ideal conditions, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in around 35 to 40 minutes. Some specifications remain market-dependent because export versions differ from Chinese domestic models.
The cabin focuses heavily on digital technology and premium comfort. The HiPhi Y features a large infotainment display, digital driver cluster, augmented reality head-up display, and advanced driver assistance systems. Higher trims also include adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering. Unlike larger family SUVs, the HiPhi Y uses a two-row five-seat layout instead of a seven-seat configuration. This setup prioritizes passenger comfort and interior technology over maximum seating capacity.
The HiPhi Y launched in China with prices starting around RMB 339,000 and rising above RMB 449,000 depending on battery size and drivetrain. That converts to roughly $47,000 to $62,000 USD before taxes or import fees. In the premium EV SUV market, the HiPhi Y suits buyers who want long driving range, advanced software features, and luxury-focused cabin technology. It fits commuters, tech-focused drivers, and families seeking a premium electric SUV without moving into the full-size luxury category.
Within the HiPhi lineup, the Y sits between the futuristic HiPhi X and the sportier HiPhi Z. Major competitors include the Tesla Model Y, NIO ES6, BMW iX, and Audi Q8 e-tron. The closest direct comparison is the Tesla Model Y Performance because both models target premium EV buyers with dual-motor performance, long electric range, and software-heavy user experiences.
