The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a full-size luxury liftback sedan — essentially the electric answer to the S-Class — sitting at the top of Mercedes’ EQ lineup. Unveiled on 14 April 2026, this second facelift is far more than a styling refresh: over a quarter of the vehicle’s components have been updated, with changes spanning the platform, powertrain, software, and interior.
The range-leading EQS 450+ carries a 122 kWh battery with silicon oxide-graphite cell chemistry, delivering a claimed WLTP range of 926 km (575 miles) — a 13% improvement over the outgoing model. On the charging side, the move to an 800-volt architecture enables peak DC fast charging of up to 350 kW, adding 320 km of range in roughly 10 minutes. At standard 400V stations, the battery intelligently splits into two virtual halves, each accepting up to 175 kW — a practical workaround that keeps charge times competitive on legacy infrastructure.
The entry-level EQS 400 opens at €79,330 net in Germany (approximately €94,403 with VAT), positioning it against the BMW i7, which starts at $107,250 with a considerably shorter EPA-rated range. The EQS targets buyers who want S-Class levels of refinement and long-haul capability without a combustion engine. Within the Mercedes EV family, it sits above the EQE sedan (a mid-size alternative) and the EQS SUV (the wagon-body variant of the same platform). Cross-brand alternatives include the BMW i7 and the Lucid Air — with Lucid still holding the edge on raw EPA-rated range, though the EQS pulls ahead on charging speed and software depth.
