Nissan has started mass production of the NX8 electric crossover at the Dongfeng-Nissan plant in Guangzhou, China. The new model targets the domestic market first and arrives with both BEV and EREV powertrain options. An overseas launch remains under consideration.
The NX8 is the third model under Dongfeng-Nissan’s electric N-series, following the N6 and N7 sedans introduced last year. Production began on January 28, with a market launch planned between March and April.

Production milestone at Guangzhou plant
Dongfeng-Nissan confirmed that the first mass-produced Nissan NX8 rolled off the line on January 28. The unit wore a purple press-spec finish and carried a “000001” plate marking the start of large-scale production. Assembly takes place at the Huadu facility in Guangzhou, which has an annual capacity of 600,000 vehicles.
The “000001” plate signals Nissan’s high expectations for the NX8. Internal targets point toward cumulative sales approaching one million units over its lifecycle. This ambition aligns with earlier reports stating that Dongfeng-Nissan plans to export electric models to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other regions from 2026.

Nissan NX8 platform and dimensions
The NX8 is the first Nissan-branded electric SUV developed primarily in China. It shares its platform with the N7 sedan. The crossover measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height, with a 2,917 mm wheelbase.
Design follows Nissan’s V-motion theme, highlighted by a 2.4-meter LED halo daytime running light across the front fascia.
Interior and driver assistance features
Inside, the NX8 uses a dual-screen cockpit paired with a two-spoke steering wheel and a column-mounted gear selector. The center console includes two wireless charging pads. Key features include a head-up display and an advanced assisted driving system supported by a LiDAR sensor.
The system supports Navigate on Autopilot functionality on both highways and urban roads, positioning the NX8 among the more tech-focused electric SUVs in its segment.

Powertrain options and range
Nissan offers the NX8 with two electrified configurations.
The EREV version combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 109 kW with a rear-mounted electric motor rated at 195 kW. Buyers choose between 20.3 kWh, 21.1 kWh, or 37.4 kWh battery packs. Electric-only range spans 102 km to 185 km, depending on battery size.
The fully electric NX8 comes in two motor outputs at 215 kW and 250 kW. Battery options include 73 kWh and 81 kWh packs. Claimed driving range reaches between 565 km and 650 km on a single charge.
