The Opel Frontera Electric is a compact electric SUV from Opel positioned in the brand’s entry-to-mid EV lineup. It replaces traditional budget-focused compact SUVs with a fully electric platform aimed at practicality and low running costs. The model uses a front-wheel-drive setup with a single electric motor and a five-seat SUV body style. Opel developed the Frontera Electric on Stellantis’ Smart Car platform, which also underpins the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross. The return of the “Frontera” name is significant because Opel previously used it for ICE SUVs before shifting the badge to an affordable EV crossover format.

Opel Frontera Electric Battery, Range, and Charging

The standard Opel Frontera Electric comes with a 44 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and an 83 kW front-mounted electric motor. Opel rates the SUV at around 305 km of WLTP range in standard configuration. A larger “Extended Range” version later joined the lineup with a 54 kWh battery pack and up to 408 km WLTP range depending on wheel size and trim level.

The Opel Frontera Electric currently uses WLTP testing figures because the SUV is focused on European markets. Opel has not released official EPA ratings for North America.

Charging specifications include:

  • 7.4 kW AC charging as standard
  • Optional 11 kW onboard AC charger on selected trims
  • Up to 100 kW DC fast charging
  • 20% to 80% DC charging in about 26 to 30 minutes under ideal conditions

Some early preview reports mentioned 110 kW peak DC charging, though Opel’s official specifications mainly list 100 kW as the benchmark figure.

Opel Frontera Electric Price

The Opel Frontera Electric enters the market as one of the more affordable compact electric SUVs in Europe.

Current launch pricing includes:

  • Germany: from around €29,000 for the standard-range model
  • Extended Range version: from around €31,000 before incentives
  • UK-market Vauxhall variant: below £28,000 in selected trims

Nigeria does not currently have official Opel EV distribution at scale. Imported units would likely cost significantly more after shipping, duties, and dealer markup.

Who Should Buy the Opel Frontera Electric?

The Opel Frontera Electric fits buyers who need:

  • A practical family EV
  • Lower daily running costs
  • Compact SUV dimensions for city driving
  • Moderate charging times
  • Simple EV ownership without premium pricing

The SUV suits commuters, ride-hailing drivers, small families, and fleet operators more than performance-focused buyers.

Opel Frontera Electric vs Other Opel EVs

Inside Opel’s electric lineup, the Frontera Electric sits between the smaller Opel Corsa Electric and the larger Opel Grandland Electric. It also overlaps slightly with the Opel Astra Electric in pricing.

Opel Frontera Electric Competitors

The main rivals include:

The closest direct comparison is the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross because both models share the same Stellantis platform, battery options, charging setup, and similar WLTP range figures.

Most comparisons between the Frontera Electric and ë-C3 Aircross focus on:

  • Interior practicality
  • Ride comfort
  • Standard equipment
  • Pricing differences
  • Suspension tuning

The Opel Frontera Electric focuses on affordability, usable range, and family practicality rather than high performance or luxury positioning. That places it directly in the growing budget-friendly electric SUV segment across Europe.
