Avatr has revealed a refreshed version of the Avatr 12, its flagship electric fastback, through new regulatory filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The premium brand operates as a joint project between Changan, CATL, and Huawei. The update focuses on extreme performance, expanded powertrain options, and upgraded driver assistance hardware.
Avatr plans to position the updated Avatr 12 in the RMB 300,000 to RMB 320,000 range, roughly USD 42,900 to USD 45,700. This pricing places it directly against premium electric sedans from both Chinese and global brands.

High-Performance Tri-Motor Avatr 12 Delivers 955 Horsepower
The headline update is a new tri-motor all-wheel drive configuration. This version uses one electric motor at the front and two motors at the rear.
The front motor produces 210 kW. Each rear motor delivers 251 kW. Combined system output reaches 712 kW, equal to 955 horsepower. This places the Avatr 12 among the most powerful production EVs in its class.
Avatr positions this variant as a performance statement rather than a niche halo model. Despite its size, the Avatr 12 targets acceleration and traction figures closer to high-end sports sedans.

Avatr 12 Adds Extended-Range Electric Version
To attract buyers not ready for full battery electric driving, Avatr introduces an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle variant. This version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine strictly as a generator. The engine produces 115 kW and does not drive the wheels.
Power goes to the rear wheels through two independent rear motors. Each motor outputs 200 kW, delivering strong electric performance even when the battery runs low.
Energy storage comes from a 52 kWh LFP battery supplied by CATL. On electric power alone, the EREV version reaches up to 162 miles on the WLTC test cycle.

Battery Electric Versions Focus on Dual Rear Motors
Avatr continues to offer pure battery electric models alongside the tri-motor flagship. The standard BEV configuration now uses a dual-motor rear-wheel drive layout instead of a single motor.
Each rear motor produces 251 kW, for a combined output of 674 horsepower. Avatr appears to shift its strategy toward performance-focused drivetrains across the lineup.
Avatr 12 Dimensions and Exterior Design
The Avatr 12 retains its fastback body style, blending sedan proportions with a coupe-like roofline. Exterior dimensions remain unchanged.
Length measures 5,020 mm. Width reaches 1,999 mm. Height stands at roughly 1,470 mm. The wheelbase spans 3,020 mm, supporting generous rear seat space.
At the rear, the Avatr 12 keeps its camera-based system instead of a traditional rear window, similar to the Polestar 4. A deployable rear spoiler and a full-width taillight bar complete the design.

Huawei LiDAR Upgrade Enhances Driver Assistance
A major technology update appears on the roof. The refreshed Avatr 12 gains a new LiDAR sensor, likely based on Huawei’s latest driver assistance platform. Two additional LiDAR units now sit on the front fenders.
This hardware upgrade signals improved automated driving and enhanced perception for highway and urban scenarios.
