Chinese spy photos show what looks to be the Avatr 12 wagon, a new model of the high-end electric sedan created by Avatr, a partnership between Changan, CATL, and Huawei. This possible lineup expansion indicates that Avatr is getting ready to move beyond its svelte sedan offering and into the electric wagon or shooting brake market.
A Wagon-Style Evolution of the Avatr 12
The spotted prototype looks like a stylish electric shooting brake or full wagon because it has an extended rear overhang and an elongated roofline, while still maintaining the futuristic proportions of the original Avatr 12. The test car closely resembles the sedan’s exterior styling and interior layout, suggesting a close mechanical and design relationship, even though Avatr has not yet confirmed production plans.
Intelligent Driving and Performance
Similar to the sedan, the upcoming Avatr 12 wagon is anticipated to have Huawei’s ADS 4 intelligent driving system, which is driven by four LiDAR sensors: one solid-state LiDAR at the back and three long-range units. High-end safety features and sophisticated autonomous driving capabilities are offered by this configuration.
The current Avatr 12 sedan lineup comes in both pure electric and range-extender versions, with prices ranging from 269,900 to 429,900 yuan (roughly $37,800 to $60,200).
- Range-extender version: 231 kW (310 hp), over 1,155 km combined range (CLTC).
- All-electric version: 705–755 km range, 237 kW (318 hp) for the single-motor and 402 kW (539 hp) for the dual-motor AWD.
Premium Interior and Tech
The Avatr 12 sedan’s interior features include Huawei’s HarmonySpace 5 system, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and a 35.4-inch 4K panoramic display. Along with upscale options like the “Royal Theatre Edition” trim and the new Rock Brown color scheme, expect the wagon to have the same high-end technology.
Market Competition and Positioning
If launched, the Avatr 12 wagon will compete against other premium electric wagons and fastbacks, including:
- Huawei Stelato S9T — from 309,800 yuan ($43,550)
- Zeekr 007 GT — from 199,900 yuan ($28,100)
- Audi E5 Sportback — from 235,900 yuan ($33,150)
The wagon version will probably use the same battery technology and smart driving features as the sedan due to Avatr’s close partnerships with CATL and Huawei. However, specifics like powertrain options and an official release date have not yet been confirmed because the prototype is still heavily camouflaged.
