Kia has started production of the EV2 at its plant in Žilina, Slovakia. The factory upgrade cost $234 million and finished in 2025. This move strengthens Kia’s electric vehicle output in Europe.
Inside Kia’s Žilina Factory
The Slovakia plant runs with strong scale and automation:
- 3,700 workers on-site
- 600+ robots across production lines
- Five key areas: press, body, paint, engine, assembly
In 2025, the plant produced:
- 300,000 vehicles
- 470,000 engines
- 9.3% of Kia global production

Kia EV2 Battery and Range
The EV2 targets buyers who want a compact electric car with solid range. Two battery options are available:
- 42.2 kWh battery: up to 197 miles range
- 61 kWh battery: up to 281 miles range
Charging setup:
- 11 kW AC charging for home and public use
- DC fast charging support
- Plug and Charge for easy access at supported stations
Kia’s EV Expansion in Europe
The EV2 is Kia’s second electric model built in Europe after the EV4. This shows a clear push to grow EV production close to key markets.
Buyers in Europe gain faster delivery times and better supply stability. It also helps Kia compete with models like the Volkswagen ID.2 and Renault 5 Electric.
This launch positions the EV2 as a key model for buyers moving from petrol cars to electric.
