Viral Bikes has introduced its first electric bike, the Wander-ee. The launch took place in Bentonville, Arkansas, a location known for its cycling culture. The Wander-ee is a titanium gravel e-bike built around the Mahle X20 motor system and Pinion Smart.Shift technology.
Pinion Smart.Shift Explained
Pinion Smart.Shift is an electronic shifting system powered directly by the bike’s main battery. This setup reduces cable routing and simplifies integration.
Key functions include:
• Automatic gear selection when stopping
• Start-select mode for preferred launch gear
• Pre-select mode for speed-based shifting
The system requires speed sensors, which limits compatibility to electric models.

Platform and Geometry
The Wander-ee builds on the existing Wanderer platform. The frame has been modified to match Mahle hub standards:
• Rear spacing: 142/12
• Front spacing: 100/12
Viral prioritized weight and handling over drivetrain integration with heavier motor gear units.
Founder Steve Domahidy stated that Pinion’s MGU system was excluded due to mass and design focus. The Mahle X20 system aligns with the bike’s lightweight objectives.

Suspension Strategy
Front suspension comes from the Cane Creek Invert CS fork. It provides 40 mm of travel. The frame geometry was tuned specifically for this fork.
Rear compliance uses Viral’s titanium flex plate design:
• Seat tube isolated from top tube weld
• Titanium flex plate absorbs vibration
• No pivots or complex mechanisms
This design improves comfort without adding mechanical complexity.

Tire Clearance and Stability
The Wander-ee supports wide gravel and trail tires.
Maximum clearance:
• 29 x 2.1 inches
A slack head tube angle enhances stability at higher speeds and on rough terrain.
