In China, the 2026 BYD Atto 3 is expected to significantly improve performance. The updated crossover has reportedly been given permission to sell domestically and will have a potent new 230 kW (308 hp) electric motor that was taken from the BYD Seal EV sedan. This represents a remarkable 107 horsepower boost over the current model.
The new Atto 3 is anticipated to use BYD’s 800V high-voltage platform as a result of this upgrade, enabling significantly faster DC charging speeds than its predecessor.
A Quick Recap: How the BYD Atto 3 Got Here
One of BYD’s worldwide success stories is the BYD Atto 3, which was first introduced in China on February 19, 2022, under the Yuan Plus brand. The small electric SUV has sold more than one million units worldwide and in more than 110 countries.
But as EV competition grew more fierce, the Atto 3 started to show its age, especially when it came to power output and charging efficiency in comparison to more recent competitors.
In March 2025, BYD released a minor update to address this issue, enhancing the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) while largely maintaining the powertrain. With a significant performance-focused update, the 2026 BYD Atto 3 seeks to address that.

2026 BYD Atto 3 Design and Dimensions
Visually, the 2026 model continues the design language of the 2025 Atto 3, featuring:
- A large trapezoidal air intake
- Smoked LED headlights
- Blackened D-pillars
- New 18-inch alloy wheels
Its wheelbase is 2720 mm, and its body measurements of 4455 mm for length, 1875 mm for width, and 1615 mm for height are still standard.
It’s interesting to note that the curb weight has gone up from 1,625 to 1,690 kg in the previous model to 1,880 kg, indicating a larger battery pack. At this point, the gross vehicle weight is 2,410 kg.
Powertrain and Battery Details
The 2026 BYD Atto 3’s TZ200XYC permanent magnet electric motor, which generates 230 kW (308 hp), is powered by a FinDreams battery pack under the hood—or rather, beneath the floor.
Both the Denza N7 and the BYD Seal EV, which are powered by BYD’s cutting-edge 800V high-voltage system, use the same motor. This implies that the Atto 3 will probably be able to support DC fast charging at up to 150 kW, which is almost twice as fast as the current model.
Although BYD has not yet disclosed the precise battery capacity, the weight increase and 800V system strongly imply a larger, more energy-dense pack for increased efficiency and range.

Expected Launch and Market Outlook
The 2026 BYD Atto 3 is anticipated to make its debut in China by the end of 2025, with plans to expand to other markets soon after, though BYD has not confirmed the precise launch date.
The updated Atto 3 is set to stay among the most competitive electric SUVs in its class thanks to its improved power, charging speed, and high-voltage technology.
