At the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Chinese automaker Leapmotor, supported by industry titan Stellantis, formally unveiled its new Leapmotor B05 electric hatchback. The B05 blends sporty styling, cutting-edge technology, and affordable prices to compete with well-known models like the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG4.
Leapmotor B05 – Sporty Design With Youthful Appeal
The Leapmotor B05, which debuted with a bright yellow finish, has a sporty and streamlined design that appeals to younger consumers. It functions as a sportier, lower-profile substitute for the Leapmotor B10 crossover. Important design features consist of:
- Frameless doors for a premium touch
- Dark-tinted headlights connected by a slim trim piece
- A full-width LED taillight bar inspired by high-end sports cars
- Aggressive 19-inch glossy black alloy wheels
Leapmotor also confirmed an “Ultra” trim is in development for 2026, featuring a bolder front splitter and a larger rear wing for extra performance flair.

Dimensions and Space
The B05 fits neatly into the compact hatchback category with the following dimensions:
- Length: 4,430 mm
- Width: 1,880 mm
- Height: 1,520 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,735 mm
Both models have the same wheelbase, despite being shorter and lower than the Leapmotor B10 crossover. This implies that even with its sporty profile, the Leapmotor B05 will still have a surprisingly roomy cabin.

Performance and Range
The Leapmotor B05 and the B10 are both built on the same LEAP3.5 architecture. One electric motor provides the following power:
- 215 hp (160 kW)
- 240 Nm of torque
Two battery options are expected:
- 56.2 kWh pack
- 67.1 kWh pack
The larger battery in the heavier B10 crossover has a WLTP range of up to 270 miles. The B05 could attain even higher figures and rank among the most efficient small EV hatchbacks available on the market because of its lighter, more aerodynamic body.
Stellantis was instrumental in improving the B10 and B05’s chassis. The end result is a multi-link rear suspension and a 50:50 weight distribution, which are characteristics usually found in more expensive cars. The Leapmotor B05 has an advantage over competitors in its class thanks to this configuration, which guarantees balanced handling and enhanced ride comfort.

Technology and Interior
While the interior wasn’t revealed at the Munich launch, buyers can expect a modern, high-tech cabin. The Leapmotor B05 will likely feature:
- A large central infotainment display
- Snapdragon 8155 chip for fast performance
- Leap OS 4.0 Plus for navigation, media, and smart features
Pricing and Market Position
The Leapmotor B05 is positioned as an inexpensive EV beneath the B10 crossover, which starts at $35,000 in Europe, though the exact price has not yet been confirmed. According to early estimates, it will start at about $29,300, directly competing with the Volkswagen ID.3, which starts at $39,050 in Germany.
Customers who desire long range and contemporary design without breaking the bank may find the Leapmotor B05 to be one of the most alluring affordable electric hatchbacks in Europe thanks to its aggressive pricing strategy.
